My oil pan is leaking. Is this common?

This is pretty common. I'm getting mine fixed right now. Make sure the mechanic doesn't use a gasket (they come from the factory with one but seal better without).

there is a sticker on the oil pan that says (Mazda re-man). It doesnt look like a gasket was used though because there is a gray silicone like substance that is oozing out around parts of the pan.

Mine leaks, last time I put it together I used a gasket. When I redo it , I'm going without a gasket.

Mine leaked with the gasket.

Now it leaks without the gasket.

Gotta go have it re-siliconed again.

I'd say this is a fairly common problem.

just wondering

Mine leaks too, right where the suspension pieces bolt on.
I was just wondering how hard this was to fix? I will probably do more research when I am ready to do this but would just like to know if it is a weekend fix or a "don't try this at home" job. Anybody with some tips?

HUH? What suspension? suspension bolts to the body, not the engine. You may be thinking of the motor mounts though. That's a very common place for oil to leak.

Best thing to do is not use the gasket and put a TON of silicone sealant on it. Play close attention to the front cover and the motor mounts. Those are the two most common places the oil pan leaks.

Use the factory paper gasket. Use a good high temp silicone sealant. Use a Staff's auto external oil pan gasket brace available @ www.staffsauto.com You'll need longer 10-mm oil pan bolts and longer motor mount bolts (the brace is 0.1875 inches thick!).

Mine leaks, when I get a new motor I'll get Gothamracing to fix it so it won't leak again.

I fixed my oil leak problem...I thought it was the oil pan. Turns, out it was one of 2 things. One was a leaky pan and the other was a bad motor mount.

Mine leaked when I first got the car. $200 to re-seal it.
