I know after 80k miles you guys change the engines and stuff, but how about the rest of the rx-7, chassis, what's under the hood, i mean how long can you really own an rx-7 for?

No one has driven one long enough to know. The car doesn't suffer from any rust problems, and the suspension bushings and joints are the next major wear item after engine/tranny/turbos. Those aren't a big deal to replace but are expensive like everything. After that, who knows. The seats and paint also wear out but not faster than any other car. Zerobanger has 150k plus on his chassis but he's replaced so many things its like a new car, this applies to just about all modern cars, you can drive them forever if you want.

If it has a rear wiper it is most likely not an R1. Only Touring and PEP models came with a rear wiper. The fact it does not have a sunroof is a bit odd, but I've seen stranger combos. I usually identify an R1 model by its second oil cooler, although any model car can be equipped to have the same features as an R1, so its really a moot point. If there are features you definitely don't want to have, then just avoid those features, but the added features of an R1 are very easy to add to any car that doesn't have them. The R1 features are: front and rear spoiler, synthetic suede seats, 2nd oil cooler, stiffer shocks, stiffer rear anti-roll bar on '94 and '95 (all '93s had a stiff rear anti-roll bar), front strut tower bar, CYM color option for '93. The delete features are: less sound insulation, no rear wiper, no cruise control, no sunroof, no bose audio system, no auto tranny, only available in red, black, yellow ('93 only), and silver. Since a base model has every delete feature an R1 has, you can in theory take a base model and equip it exactly like an R1.

I sold a first gen car a while back that had close to 400,000 miles. The engines typically lasted 125,000 and that was shifting at 10,000 rpm every day. The car was N/a.

I also hear after a certain period of time, it's important to tighten bolts in various points of the car.

second oiler cooler is on the passenger side front nose. batman has like 220k miles on his car with 5 engines, something like that. can ask him how it's holding up. i'm on 105k miles. it's definitely not a new car, so if you're looking for a new car feel get something else. otherwise mine is still driving fine.
