Just wondering, how many miles can you expect to get out of an FD motor before it needs re-building? Assume normal driving without boosting a whole lot; stock motor with a few reliability mods including downpipe, cold air box, and aftermarket alum radiator. Follow-up question: What is the biggest cause of blowing them up other than not putting oil in it. duh

With gas prices as they are, look for loose FD motors like road kill by the side of the highway

I think you can get 80k on motor and turbos if you dont beat the hell out of it and maintain it well.

Hmm, I would say if you're gentle with your car, you could probably get a good chunk beyond 100k miles. But it really depends on the engine and how you treat your car. If you're the original owner, then you know how you've driven your FD since you've bought it. Else it's a bit of a crap shoot. You do what you can to make your Fd as reliable as possible, but we all have to do a rebuild someday. Just try to be prepared for it.

There is no reason you shouldn't expect 80k+ out of the motor. If you do things to make the car run cooler (PFC with lowered fan temps or FC thermosensor, for example), you should expect 100k+ out of the motor. **** happens though.

Engines don't just blow for nothing. There is always a cause and effect. I got 103k on the original engine, turbos and vacuum lines. Still boost great and pulls hard stock. How you treat the engine and maintain it predetermines it's life span.
