How many gauge lights can you safely run off of the ashtray light?

Hi All:

I've seen many articles on installing gauges and getting the gauge light power from the ashtray light wires. I also saw one that said to be careful (I think on Ciriani's site) about using caution to not overload it because if you pop the driver for the ashtray light, you'll lose ALL of the dash lights.

I have 4 gauges that need light power. Will I be ok using the ashtray light wires as a source for all 4? One is on the a-pillar and the other 3 are above the radio.

Thanks,
Sonny

Hi Sonny,

I have 3 gauges hooked up to my ashtray wires, and had no problems for over a year.

I think that depend on what type of light . For ex the LED will have last load than light bulb.

I use to hook up 3 DEFI link gauges using power from ashtray ligh wires. without any problem

Not sure if I remember correctly.. but aren't there some open fuse slots in the fuse box available? I need to pull the cover and check myself I guess =)

Isn't that the same thing that SAAB sells?

Can you change CD's in 3rd and 5th?

The Saab part is no longer available as far as I know. I tried to get it and was gonna use egauges.com universal DIN panel, but it had no clips. I saw this panel on eBay for $25 so I snagged it.

I have no problems getting CD's out in any gear.
