How about the guy on eBay that was selling an FD that had never been registered. It had a couple thousand on it, but had never been registered. Just a couple months ago too. It only went for a little over $20k, pretty sound investment to me.

I realize that there won't be a count of those that aren't registered, but this is as close to an estimate as possible. When I get my site up for our local club, I'll work on getting something like a registry going. If I can get a list of VINs that are in existance, those owners can come in and fill in their info to their VIN.

Edy, I'll pass that along and ask them to pay us for doing their work for them.

i really like the way this is going guys i think a registry is an awesome idea i'd hate to be the person in charge of it though 'cause i KNOW that i'd be going nuts trying to track down every last car... by the by, if you get that list, couldn't you run them on CARFAX to get an idea of current standing? can't you spend like however much money and do unlimited VIN searches for a month or something? (not sure if this had be suggested already or not)

Well, what I could do is this, and some of the more senior members tell me if I'm off base. We know the production numbers and the VINs up to the 5/6 digit serial number of each model. Do these VINs go in sequence? IE (made up VIN here) JM1FD3327P0200001 is the first for this model year, 1000 were made. Will they actually end up in sequence to 201000? So this way, just find the first # and run them up to the last for that year based on the production numbers and go from there.

If that's the case, then that initial part would be easy. Without knowing how each was configured, it will be a little more tricky. Perhaps Mazda can supply that information. Has anyone ever contact corporate directly about this? Don't need to be doing double work.

Question All Countries, All Years ?

Since we are on the world wide web,...
what are the production numbers for all the years of production, not only the US imported models, but also in Japan, and exports to Canada, Australia, ..., and Elbonia?
Perhaps Mazda has such info hidden somewhere.

Enter the matrix:
Japan US Canada,eh Kangarooland ...
93
94
95
96
97

US #s are elsewhere in the forum. I'll stop with this as I've brought this thread way off topic. I'll start one dedicated to a registry.

The rest of the world does not go for the ***** year model stuff the USA does. (eg, calling a 92 model car a 93 model)

REality would be this.

Although these are overall production numbers supplied by Mazda Japan. Mazda Australia rip-off-the-rotary-buyer so sales here where pathetic, so bad I dare not mention from 92 - 98

EG, 1992 = 122 (Like the USA, that was its best year for AUssie sales)

You can see that 1992 was the best year for the FD RX-7 but 1993 was a huge let down & wrote the writing on the wall for its continued export

The final year was quite impressive since it was sold only in Japan & production ceased in AUG meaning just 8 months of 02 models.

Series-6 RX-7

1992 = 26899
1993 = 06801
1994 = 05962
1995 = 05202

Series-7 RX-7

1996 = 04762
1997 = 03556
1998 = 01423

Series-8 RX-7

1999 = 04151
2000 = 02611
2001 = 02589
2002 = 03903

I have some info on my site that might help at least in terms of number produced, etc.

I would be willing to host the registry on FD3S.net (the new home of the Lightning in a World of Thunder site), and tit would be a great fit there...

Cheers,

Steve

What's up with the RX-7 Registry? I clicked on the "RX-7 Registry" link on fd3s.net and was sent off to some "Simplenet" domain-selling page. Searching for "RX-7 Registry" on that page got me a "not found" page. So since the collection thread on the 3rd Gen forum is now locked, where do I upload our RX-7 data?

Railgun,

Thank you for replying. I had already read the entire sticky. As far as I can tell, there is no website listed anywhere in the entire thread (except Mazda itself) to which I can post my car's data. Can you direct me to a website? Thanks again!

Here is the link http://www.fd3s.cc/
It's actually pretty pathetic, with over 60000 registered members on this forum only 62 registered FDs.

Thumbs up

trexthe3rd,

Thanks for the link; I appreciate it. I have not seen that link anywhere else; I just now joined that site and registered my car.

I was wondering how the forum could have over 6000 (is that what you meant?) members if there are only 5733 registered FDs in the U.S. Ex-owners? Wannabe owners?

I think what he means is that there should be more than the 60some members who've registered. That's up to the members right now. It was a push for a while, then things (as they usually do) got busy and had to set that aside for a while. In working on the last push to get the car ready for the revo, things have fallen by the wayside.

Of those 60,000 members, ~40,150 have 5 or less posts. ~25,600 of those have no posts.

Considering that the majority of members are from the U.S., that there were only ~13,800 FDs imported into the United States, that half of those are now gone, and that many current FD owners likely don't know about this forum... what were you expecting?

He meant 60,000 (it's actually about 56,650).

The vast majority of rotary owners have 1st or 2nd gen. RX-7s, and there are many people here that don't own a rotary vehicle at all (no comments about V8 converted cars, please). 3rd gen. owners are actually a very small minority, but our arrogance more than makes up for our lack of numbers.

Actually, you and your cohorts should chime in there as well. Still an FD body after all.

Sorry, I thought his forum members number referred to this 3rd Gen forum only.

Anyway, my original question was answered regarding where to go to post my FD's data. Which I did.

Thanks for the info, Trexthe3rd!

I just registered on that site.. I think a regestry is a great Idea.. I am comming from the Integra Type R world, So I know what it is like to own a rare vehicle.

Not all owners usually prowl web forums... So it's really hard to get an exact number.
