I know this is probably a really stupid question, but I can't launch in the 7! I've tried a couple of times, everytime i've rode the cluth pretty bad considering it stinks the car out... anyone?

It just takes time to learn how much and how long to slip the clutch for in relation to what tires you have and your power. EVeryone has an opinion on the way they launch but the only way to actually catch on is to just keep trying. if you keep stinking your car up then you know already that you're slipping for too long and may wanna adjust the rpm's you launch at and how long you ride on it for. Is your clutch still good? You man wanna check the drag racing section and search for launching techniques... I've read a few good threads about how people launch.

My cluth is still fine! My FD is stock. When I try and launch, I rev it to say 3-4000rpm maybe 5000 tops, and I let release the cluth slowly and thats why I ride the cluth. If I just let the cluth go, I'll lose traction...

This is a red flag that if you were to search you'd find the answer yourself. Try typing "how to launch" into the search?

First, you need to figure out how to ride the clutch as little as possible while still holding traction. You probably also need better tires.

Second, you need to decide if you can afford to launch. It's hard on the tires and clutch, and also the drivetrain.

Breaking something means you can get something newer and better which is half the fun. Then you get to have fun pulling off old crap and putting the new part on. At this point, you get to bond with the car.....again....

Here are three steps to launching.

1. Rev engine to 8,500 RPM.
2. Drop Clutch.
3. Hold on.

Ouch. Sounds fun though.

I was stock last year. What I found that worked for me was just as everyone has said, "get the feel for your clutch". I never dropped over 4000RPM's and on many occations, I was getting out ahead of other RX 7's that were modded. Of course they would reel me in and smack me on the back of the head on the way by, but every one of them were surprised at how a stock car was getting off the line. This was all at Rotary Revolution last 2005. Just drive it, push it, and you'll learn it. (or break it, in which case, you still learned.)

I'd say keep it between 3-4rpm's and release the clutch slowly. The power enough will get you going after that. +1
