How hard to take the turbo out?
How hard to take the turbo out?
My turbo studs are so brittle that 4 of them broke
while I am replacing the exhaust system.
I was able to take the 3 out but I could not take one
stud due to a limited space to put a drill and drill it out.
My only choice is to take the turbo out and work from
there.
Can someone tell me how hard to take the turbo out?
Is there any problem ahead that I might encounter?
I will appreciate every tips you can give me...thanks

That's got to feel defeating. It's a pain, but far from impossible. Just make sure you label where hoses went and have a good understanding of how things work so you can put them back together again. If you have a digital camera, take reference pics for yourself if you think you'll need them.
Before you try to un-do any more nuts and bolts, go get yourself a cab of PB Plaster from the local Pep Boys/Autozone. Soak all of the nuts you'll be removing with this stuff and let it sit a while (hours). And then soak 'em more.
Then, when you go to unbolt the rest of the turbo, break things lose with sharp blows (like a hammer on the end of a wrench) and not using slow and steady pressure. Sharp blows are much less likely to break more studs.
Enjoy your weekend.

BTW, do yourself a favor if you have to drill out a stud. Clamp the turbine in a vice so that it cannot move and use a cobalt drill bit in a drill press to get it out. The steel stud is much harder than the surrounding cast iron. If you use a hand drill, it's really easy for the bit to wander and chew up the threads in the turbo housing.
Good luck.

I don't have any information on removing the turbos, but definetly take Newbern's advice if you are going to have to remove them as a last resort and label as much as you can and take pictures of how things go, and even make a diagram, because once its off its hard to put it back on if you can't remember what goes where, this almost works with anything you remove btw. I wish I would take my own advice sometimes.
