how hard is it to change a diff/rear end gears??
What is the process involved in changing out the rear end?? I called Rick's Rotary and SRMotorsports for quotes today and they want an arm + leg for it. I would much rather do it myself if the labor alone is over a thousand dollars. any information would help me on this.
Thanks,
Randy

Will work for horsepower
Just an opinion but i suggest you pull the diff your self and then take it to a pro with the tools and knodledge to set the lash and then you can replace it your self. Also a good time to replace seals and diff bushings. There is a right up on the removal and install in the facts.

I changed the gears on my project car from auto 3.9's to manual 4.11's. I bought the gears used, bought a new front crush sleeve, front nut, and front/side oil seals, and started calling around. Found a guy who used to have a business working on diffs, he put the whole thing together and set it up for $120.
I could have taught myself how to set it up, but if you screw it up, you can bigtime ruin the diff or even wreck the car. It's worth having a pro do it who's done it countless times. Our diffs aren't anything special, they're as plain as can be when it comes to how the gears and pinion are set up.
It is a chore to drop the diff and reinstall it, but it's not that bad.
