Just wondering if you need a special tool, or if a certain kind of fittings is better to get than another.

I think you need a special tool or press to install them properly. I am not sure which one though.

its easy you just need 2 wrenches. slide the compression nut down the hose, insert the barbed end and then tighten down the nut.

That's basically it but it needs to be perfect. You have to cut the line real smooth, not frared. I found it's better to wrap the fittings in a towel and use vise grips to tighten, or buy the special wreches.

Get some strapping tape. a Dremil tool w/ reinforced cutting disks. Get Russels fittings if possible (Aeroquipe (sp)) require a tool. the lines when you buy them should already come w/ the ends taped. if not use the strapping tape about 1/4in past the end. (Wrap it tight) use the drimel to cut between the lines. only cut the metal and after cutting all the way around use a razor blade to cut the rubber. I can't remember what size socket but get a 1/2" drive one that will go over the hose cap. put it 1/2 on then use your finger nail to work the rest under the lip... once on make sure you know which way to twist it on while you hold the hose. I had a mechanics glove on to keep from tearing my hands up....
Once that is on use a pencil end (1/2) sharp to align the holes. then slide the blue tip into the hole and press and twist...
Then your done!... time for the next one.
