How to get out the front fender vents?

Hi,

when repainting the car its nessecary to take off all the bodyparts including the fender vents. I was wondering how to take them out and searched a bit. found 2 threads:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=fender+vents
this one says, just pull them out but you may break some plastic clips

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=fender+vents
there's a picture of the flipside of the fender, you can see 2 screws holding the vent,

so i'm confused here. Theres also no information in the workshop manual (Body, S). Just to make it clear, i want to know how to take off the visible part (for repaint) of the fender vent in case it consists of more then one part.

thanks for help.

There are two screws on the back side of each vent piece. You need to take those screws out, then push the vent out from the inside of the fender. You can try to pry it out without taking the fender off, but yes, you risk breaking the mounting elements.

it's still not clear what this vent consists of. do the 2 shrouds hold everything in place or just the first layer? were are the clips? do you mean the single metal clip here:

is it possible to get behind the fender without taking it off?

You might be able to get behind the fender if you remove the door...but that's just as much work as removing the fender.

I would say remove the fender...

No, you have to take the fender off. So you're painting the car with the fenders on? If so, what's the point on removing the vents?

You may be able to get to the fasteners with just removing the fender liner. It's not in there super high-tech, it's pretty simple how Mazda fastened the duct.

Just remove the fender liner, see if you can get those two screws out (what Tom outlined in his picture as Step 1) and there ya go. If you can't get to the screws, you might be able to squeeze the plastic clips that the screws compress to pop them out.

The thing is that if you do it that way, you will take the chance on breaking the pins since you cant really see where and how to push them out. That happened with one of mine so now i have it with 2 side 3m tape lol. I changed the color on my car and we didnt take off the other vent from the other fender and so far there is no problem with the paint and you cant even tell
