how to eliminate wheel hop at the track?

Well after going to the track a few times, I've incurred the delightful problem of wheel hop. Interestingly enough, this does not occur on my launch. However, it’s going from 1st to 2nd. I can spin a bit out of the hole and cut a 2.1 60 foot that I think it pretty good for the tires I am running (Dunlop SP5000s 245s on stock rims). However, going into 2nd it’s very bad. More so than on the street, where I'll just spin for a bit and hook. But at the track I get wheel hop to the point where I back out of the throttle going into 2nd. And as a result, it’s hurting my ETs and traps.

I am wondering, for those that have had my problem, how did you counteract this? So far I've tried adjusting the suspension to the softest setting in the rear (helped a bit), done a smoky burnout as apposed to just dumping the clutch and heating the tires up a bit before staging. I also have toe-links and trailing arms. I know my tire pressures weren't dropped which could also help. But aside from that, for those who have had similar problems. I am curious what routes you took to eliminate the wheel hop you were experiencing.

But aside from that, I think it might be time to invest in a set of Nitto DRs.

Ryan,
just get stickier tires. BF Goodrich Comp Drag Radials, works fine to me.

Try that and see....

I asked Steve Kan about wheel hop at the rotary revilution, he said to try lowering tire presure, soften the shocks, make sure all of you bushings are in good condition, and alignment is in spec.

btw-what kind of times were you running?

My best trap to date is a 114 relatively untuned at 14psi. The car pulls like a monster on the street (runs door to door with a 996 TT with slight ignition break-up), I just can't pull good times at the track. Today at the track my best was a 13.0 at 111 wheel hopping the crap out of 2nd.

I ran a total of 4 times. In which I blew an IC pipe off on the first run, missed 3rd once & popped out of gear on the launch once. Yeah it was one of those days, that was my only somewhat decent run.

I think if you soften the shocks a bit it will help eliminate the hop.... the rear shocks...

I run NITTO 555R'S on my stock rims and have no prob with wheel hop.My 1st time running them I ran a 12.81 at 113mph and that was with a 2.4 0-60 ft because of a slipping clutch "STOCK" and I also missed 3rd gear...........
