How do you feel about this?

I just got my irons back from porting and I noticed there were some differences in the ports in the front and rear irons. The port shapes seem to be identical however inside they are not. The rear iron has a rather large dip towards the e -shaft and there is a noticable gouge where it seems you can see a seperation in the material. The dark area is the dip and the line is the "gouge" or seperation. And no it's not dirt.

What do you think?
Sorry for the double post mods but I need all the help I can get at this point!

I noticed it on mine also. I have two motors apart right now. One that has a street port and the other motor is stock. I looked at the stock motor and the ports are different on it also. So i assume it's like that for a reason.

I just re read your post, i thought you were talking about the size of the port shapes.I just went out to the garage and looked at the plates. I was wrong what i posted. The center housing has a smaller port then the ends. But my ports are smooth smooth inside. Doesn't look like yours. I don't have experience in porting so I don't know what to tell you. Yeah that would concern me. Doesn't look right.

That is the factory casting mark. Whoever ported the engine didnt remove it all the way, sometimes it can be rather difficult to remove other times there is almost no "mark/gouge/step" left from the cast.

I recently ported some irons and the middle plate(primary ports) on the front was alsmost no "step" in the casting and on the rear primary port was one of the worst I have ever encountered, probaly about 1/8th inch. Keep in mind this was on the same iron. The "gouge" you refer to isnt a big deal. If some of you guys could see the way Mazda left things from the factory you wouldnt stress so much over little things like this. It could have been removed but it isnt anything you should ever worry about.
