how do u diagnose bad engine seals?

if ur seals go bad does ur engine completely stop turning over or do you slowly see it wearing out?thanx in advance

I was driving around with 2 broken seals for 4months before the engine completly lockup on me doing 80mph on the highway. Do a compression test to see where your motor is at...
