Question how do i safely tow my car?

Too make a long story short, my car wont start and i need to take it to my mechanic, who lives about 30 minutes away. Now, I cant find a trailer to use and i dont want to pay for a tow truck. How can i safely tow my car there? I heard some people recommend using a dolley. Too lift the front wheels off the ground and pull it. Also they said i must put it in neutral (it is a 5 speed) and keep the key in the "on" position. Other, however, say that method is unsafe and can damage the transmission. I dont know who to believe and i need to get my car to the mechanic soon. THanks alot. -Jeff

NO! Never tow a RWD vehicle on the rear wheels. I can't believe how often I see that done. You need to rent a trailer from Uhaul or put the rear wheels on dollys. Don't use the tie-down hooks (these are NOT tow-hooks). BTW, just pay for the tow truck, especially if they have a flat bed truck.

Yeah, you could really screw your car up the booty doing that..... I wouldn't wanna risk it. I don't think a flatbed is too expensive.

I am renting a 4-wheel dolly from U-Haul in a couple of weeks. It is $50/day here. That is the way to go. With the 2-wheel dolly you will scrape your front end on stuff while towing it.

find someone with an enclosed trailer. these are usual low to the ground with low approach angles. If no, then use the roll back.. make sure you watch them load it and don't be afraid to speak up and tell them to watch it!

rumor has it that it is not your tranny that will be screwed but your differential. i have a friend with a 325is that had to get all four lifted to tow it cause of this. now im thinking of how to tow mine to the shop cause i think it just overheated.
