Doesn't hurt performance but the stock BOV/CRV are prone to leak under vac.

sorry to sound like a noob but what does CRV and ABV stand for? are they the same thing as BOV just different ways to call them?

I was also reading about how to make the stock bov louder. The threads I read said that just unhooking the stock one from the intake will cause the car to run too rich at idle, causing to not idle right or just stall. Has anybody here actually tried disconnecting the stock bov, to see if this is true?

The FD uses a speed density system to calculate how much air is going into the motor, because of this there is no mass air flow sensor. SO the ECU does not need nor does it care if the BOV is routed back into the airbox.

Disconnecting it from the airbox won't affect anything, it'll make the BOV louder but that's it.

you can actually modify them to scream quite loudly! unhooking them wont do anything, you have a map sensor in your rx7

I read this as meaning that once you disconnect the valve, you can further modify it to make it even louder - how do you do this?

Also - why is everyone so opposed to venting the BOV or installing an aftermarket one? lol seems odd to get so angsty about it when it doesn't hinder performance and as for the 'ricer' aspect - I would have a hard time finding anyone running a forced induction setup a ricer lol

I thought because I have a map and not a maf, that the car would stall because unhooking the bov will cause some air to leak out of the system. Since it's a map sensor, it won't compensate for this and will flood the engine.

its backwards from how you thought.

MASS AIR FLOW. maf measures air. unmetered air will not be compensated for.

MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE. map doesnt care

fd has map, therefore there is not difference in performance.

I just did it and it works well. There are no idle problems. It's not crazy loud, but I can hear it echo off of the houses along the street I'm on. On an unrelated note (I think), I hit boost cut for the first time and it scared the hell out of me haha. I'm going to try and fix that this weekend. Oh yeah, what could I attach to the blow off valve to make it sound different?

Man...

Some of you guys are coming off way too harsh on the new guys around here with some of your comments.

Ease up. If you don't have a legitimate answer to the OP's original question, then don't even post.

I'm referring to the gents switching topics completely from "how to install a BOV" to "Hey, before you even do that...you need to buy an alluminum AST!" and to the folks basically flaming the guy just because he wants to have a BOV on his car.

Let's try to stay on topic AND not torch the forum newbies, kay?

Our community is small enough...no need to be jerks to newcomers just because they don't know any better.

We've all been there, myself included.

^^^ Yes, we don't need this to turn into a Supra forum.

Seriously though, agreed.

If you're talking about me, I didnt mean to change subjects or hijack the thread. I thought OP could try venting the stock one before buying an aftermarket one. And i was trying to do it and needed help. I agree with not flaming people. If OP needs help with a BOV, we should help him. That way he doesnt make any mistakes.

Op, I'm not a ricer by any means, but have always liked the sound of the woosh. I'm also not in my teens or twenties. I may give it a shot unplugging the OEM one and seeing if it adds a little woosh. Thanks for the post, I have learned a little from this.

I also love the whine of my turbo spooling up when on throttle. Makes me smile just like feathering the props on a Turboprop.

Ya. I love the sound of them spooling up, especially when it's cold outside. It reminds me of a diesel truck.

haha, I was going to say I really like the sound of my Daily Driver Diesel car when it's cold as well. The Turbo and Diesel knock are most pronounced. I guess it's the country boy in me.
