This. There is no need to install an aftermarket one on a stock FD, your money is much better spent on reliability mods such as an upgraded cooling system, fuel pump, and new hoses for the engine bay (they are likely brittle and leaky if they are the original hoses).

^ Someones been reading the FAQ's. Nice to see a new member who knows how to read:icon_tup:

^Agreed. Just got my FD and the past owner put a cold air intake and GReddy BOV? Wierd combination and pointless mod (the latter). Anyways, get a new/remove the AST, Pettit sells an aluminum one. <http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/pettitast.htm>

the stock one is black, essentially you can take it off and put the new on in its place. You may want to find something to cover the hole on the intake box, since the aftermarket unit probably wont plumb back in well.

Mahjik 02-07-12 05:01 PM

You first have to figure out what BOV you want to purchase. Some BOV's will come with a flange which you can use to connect to the stock BOV hose. Some of them won't have a flange for the stock hose and you'll need to mount it on a hard pipe. In the later case, you'll need hard IC piping to weld a flange onto and then mount the BOV; then after block off the stock location.

Basically, your best bet to not do a lot of work is pick a BOV which has some type of mounting kit specifically designed for the FD.

Mine is brown. ;)

my blitz bov is one of the shiniest mods I have done
right next to my shiny airbox
and it makes a whoosh noise people can hear at stop lights

if you bought a cheap generic BOV off ebay you going to have to do some welding or rubber hose cutting.
most of the reputable compaines should come with a little pipe adapter to bolt right into the stock location if you buy it specifcally for an FD

RENESISFD 02-07-12 06:56 PM

Or here is a thought....... Just unhook the stock one from the airbox and get almost the same noise.

I thought the crv was brown and the abv was black? There's been some questions regarding whether or not they work the same. But, if they do. Why are there two different parts?

My neat idea was moving the crv over by the airbox, instead of directly over the turbos. Hopefully this will ensure a long life for my crv.

this thread has become win

Ray says they're all brown now.

CRV is N390
ABV is N3A1

It is annotated on the the valve.

Mahjik 02-08-12 11:56 AM

The ABV (BOV) and CRV are both the same color. However, each one has a label on them with their respective names and the labels (when new) are different colors.

If you want the sound, disconnect the hose coming from the stock BOV to the airbox.

Done.

You save some money to put towards other mods, and you have a nice woosh sound.

you got pics of your ride?

So is this some sort of "thing" to have the sound of a BOV? That is exactly what I am trying to avoid...being like the rest of the ricers.

hmm I disconnected mine from the airbox after I installed an apexi intake. so that's what made it suddenly audible.

does it need to be plugged into anything or does this not affect the car in any way?
