I received my new axle today, now I need to install it. How difficult is the install? Are there instructions anywhere? I want to do it myself or with the assistance of someone else because I have been told it is pretty easy to do. I want to be able to change it at the track if and when I break another one. Thanks in advance...

Easy...but yesterday we couldn't get the axle out of the hub with a 20 ton press and a blow torch...

 

OUCH!! 20 ton press would scare me out of my skin!! It should come out of the hub relativly easy. Unbolt the lower control arm and the trailing link and it (axle flange/hub assembly) should flip up out of the way. Then use a pry bar and get in between the inner axle hub and the diff and pop it off. Drain the Diff first so you don't get covered in fishy oil!( I'm just going off the top of my head here, I can double check the manual if you desire, but it is pretty self-explanatory

 

Removing the axle is very simple. It just involves removing a few hub bolts, and using a pry bar to get the axle out of the differential. The instructions in the service manual are straight forward.

My axle was stuck in the hub before too. It got rusted in the hub and it seized. A can of PB blaster and a few good whacks with a brass hammer got the axle loose. Didn't have to take the 20 ton press route here.

It is pretty simple
Just installed mines today and had a little trouble with the axle getting stuck on the hub assembly but it all went nice and smooth.

We took the hub and axle to a machine shop and they had the 20 ton press. we tried ourselves, obviously useless. Trying to pry it apart with a prybar would have been futile.

 

You gotta do what you gotta do! The pry bar I meant to be used to pop the diff. side of the axle out. Thankfully I haven't run into the need for a press on the hub side....yet Glad you got it out and replaced. Aloha, Dave
