How to "de-bling" these tails?

Hey Guys,

My car is arriving from japan this week and the main thing on my mind is how im gonna sort these horrid tails out:

[IMG][/IMG]

Option 1. Heat gun, spray chrome inner with a matt black
Option 2. Use a window tinting film to cover the tails

Im in South Africa so there arent alot of "Spare" 99s lying around, I gotta import if I want them, which I may do if these dont work out.

You guys got any suggestions?

Open them up and spray the inside of the glass with VHT Night Shades (tint), and then spray the chrome black. That will help alot.

wow. those are ugly.

you could buy a set of original tail lights either on this forum or ebay. much quicker and easier and better looking.

Either get stock 93-95 or the newer 99 spec tailights. OR you can get the stock 93 lights and convert them to 99spec

Don't have alot of experience, but it might be tough to get paint to adhere to the chrome and I doubt tinting will look much better.

Yeah, I think this is the way to go. Now I just gotta find someone who is prepared to ship them to me

id say give it a try opening them up, im sure you can get the paint to stick to the chrome just take some 400 grit sandpaper and roughen it up a bit first. I converted my tail lights to 99 spec using a heat gun so its really not all that bad getting these type covers off.

I dont think window tinting film will work very well, but maybe the spray on kind as someone else mentioned, just do everything on the inside, there wont be any weather or debris getting inside there once sealed back up, so whatever you do will last.

If you dont like how it comes out, you can still order some used ones. I happen to have a driver side tail light for sale but i dont know what shipping would cost.
