How can i know if the ECU has been tuned?
I'm about to buy used Ecu that is tuned by pettit and i was wondering, How can exactly know that it's tuned. There is Pettit sticker on it and it says off road use only on the back. OTher than that i don't know what else to look for. Anybody can put that sticker on right?
Anybody has any tips on what i should look for, and is there a way i could find out what exactly is it tuned for?
Thanks

Yes there will be two large chips that will be resoldiered in and they will most likely say PETTIT on them.
Like I said at the very least you should be able to tell that they are new to the ECU.
You most likely will not notice any difference in HP. You should notice the car will be running richer.

The number of on the top of the chip has nothing to do with the company. They are simple 10 cent 512 or 256(depending on the type of daughter board) chips(two of them on the FD), and the company means nothing because they just steal Japanese programs and soldier in the daughter boards($100) and put thier sticker on it. Just incase anyone cares...

So why isn't anybody just buying the board for $100 and burn the two 10 cent chips?
Sounds like a good deal for $100.20.
The same thing they sell for $700 by Pettite and M2.
Now thats a profit margin!
Is it that easy?

I have 3 tuned ECU's and 2 stock ecu for sale and a $100 jumper board for sale for $500 and no one is even interested... I dont know about making a fortune. The three tuned computers are tuned for single turbos... all they need is the 10 cent chips swapped.
Soldiering in the boards is not really for the amature soldierers... but changing the chips could be done by an intellegent 12 year old.
You also need special computer to program those 10 cent chips(not that cheap) I have that computer available to me but no one seems interested in paying for it, to my experience anyway. Everyone that is willing to spend money on a computer wants the FC comander...

Yeah, I new of the cost but the PC is where they need to get the GP% out of those cheap ECU's. Then time and development for the right programs so it all works out in the end. They should lower it a bit now since they have sold a bunch of them...

laujesse2,
A lot of people would be interested in your ECUs, but they have no idea how rich or lean it will run on their car, and additionally they is not an easy way to figure out the timing in the ECU either. I thought about buying them, testing the modded ones, then reselling, but I still wouldn't be able to determine the exact timing because my PMS datalogs but it also clamps the MAP signal. I don't have any way to determine the ignition programming of the ECUs.

I agree that many people would be interested in aftermarket mapped ECUs if you know for what setup they are. Same like Pettite does offer several different chips for different setups to pop in.
There are many people, me included who do want the simple ecu swap without dealing with tuning it.
I just bought a used Pettit for $400 because I am not willing to pay $1200 for a PFC.

If someone bought my ecus... all it would take is someone to change the 10 cent chips and put in stock tubo programs... The soldiering is already done... and the board is already there anyone who does rom tunes should be shot for charging more that $100 to RETUNE a computer because that is all that it is. There is no R&D and it is a simple operation that a smart 12 year old could do.
