Unhappy How to blow an Apex seal

I have a Montego Blue 93 RX-7. I live in MI and decided to drive it on the coldest day about a week ago. (about 12 degrees out) I was making a right hand turn and gave it almost full throttle. As soon as my foot got off the pedal, the pillar boost gauge went nuts! (hit about 18 PSI at about 5500 RPM. Not bad for stock twins) There are two distinct sounds. One rotor was winding down nicely, while the other was making a lub dub sound. The car doesn't idle after blowing a seal. It peacefully lays itself to rest. I had to drive the car about 2 Miles to get it home. For the hell of it i tried giving it gas. The boost gauge was swinging back and forth. Obviously no get-up at all.

The good new to all of this is my car is covered under an extended warranty and the car is at Mazda being repaired.

* guys! DO NOT drive behind the flat bed trailer carrying your FD! Oncoming traffic is a hazard. I almost got hit twice while ppl veered into my lane while gazing at my car.*

I never knew how it would feel to pop a seal. I have flooded my GXL, ran my TII with stock turbo and HKS boost controller to 17 PSI. I had all the fuel precautions, pump, injectors, etc. BTW it makes a interesting pinging sound at that level. I have always (sadistically i guess) wanted to blow an apex seal.

I searched this forum to find what experiences other have had with blown seals, but i only found one or two at once. I hope i could enlighten other with the retelling of this tragic event.

Well, on the bright side it was under warranty.

On another bright note, when that warranty runs out and you decide to do some reliability modding there is a good RX7 shop right in your town (and no, not the dealership even though I hear their parts guys are quite good).

Well, at least you're optimistic about it. Looking at it at sort of a learning experience. Better than hating your car and wanting to sell it or give it away. Extended warranties will do that huh?

Good looking ride, you should come down to the RX7 Revolution and help us represent Michigan this spring.

Are you running any kind of boost controller? There are a good number of Michigan people over on the Midwest forum:

No boost controller. Or turbo timer. Good time to start. I try to keep in touch with the local club members but i usually cant make the commute. There is a guy in town runs a repair shop Banzai Racing. Real good for parts.
