Hose question

Does the hose that comes out of the driver side of the stock airbox and points down, connect to anything? I did a belt and hose change over the weekend on my stock '94 and now the check engine light is on. I checked all of the hose connections and the belts seem to be working fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

The hose is just a vent, doesn't connect to anything.

As for the engine codes: http://www.fd3s.net/engine_codes.html

Thank you. I was hoping you'd say that.

I will post what code(s) I find tomorrow. I hope it is something minor......

ok, it's throwing a 16 - EGR Function sensor. I've read several older posts on this:

- I've read about cleaning, replacing and bypassing using a relay. I'd hate to replace it and have that not be the problem. I'm ok working with the mechanics of this car, but I am electronically illiterate, so I'm not sure about the relay option.

- How do you tell if you have a Cal spec car? I purchased mine new in Maryland in 1994.

- Can the car be driven for the time being with this code? It seems to be running fine.

- I've been thinking about doing the downpipe thing. Would this be a good time since I'll have the air hoses, etc. out of the way?

Sorry for all of the questions. As I said, I've owned this car since new and never had any problems with it before.

Thanks,
Jeff

You've owned the car since 94 and never had a problem??? That's gotta be a record. What year is your car? If I remember correctly in 93 only the Cal spec cars had EGR valves, all the 94's had them but they got rid of it in 95. If you bought yours in 94, in MD and you're throwing a code, I assume it's a 94, like mine.
I don't think having a faulty one will hurt you unless you have to test for emissions.
I think anytime is a good time to install a dp.

Nope, not a single problem (knock on wood). 94 single owner, 50K miles. Of course, I don't beat the pi$$ out of it every time I drive it; just the occasional wild ride. Plus, I'm a stickler for preventive maintenance.

Anyway, after reading more, the relay may be the way to go, even with my limited knowledge of electronics. It appears I just need to cut the lead wires to the EGR sensor and run them to a relay that can be purchased from Radio Shack?????

As for the DP, does brand matter? I see a company selling them on Ebay for $99, but I've also seen them up to $399. Is this a case of 'you get what you pay for' or 'you're paying for the name'?

Thanks again,
Jeff

As for DP's, I think the biggest difference is fitment. Most of the board members scoff at the ebay stuff. You're best bet is to find a used one in the FD parts classified forum here. At least then you can ask the previous owner how it fit. BTW, pm FDNewbie if you're looking for a new one. He's a good guy and can get any aftermarket part at a good price.
