The "oil sweat" you found is the permeation of the oil through the wall of the silicone hose. This is typical of a silicone failure.
I was asked about the clamps already. What I will do is call my clamp supplier tomorrow and find out what the smallest they can supply us with. Currently the smallest size is .437" which is still too big for the 3.5 and 4MM sizes.

Ok guys here is the deal with the clamps. The quickest I can get the miniature clamps is Tuesday. I have several sizes available but I think we will only need 1 size. Here are the ranges:
Hose
3.5MM .348" OD
4.0MM .367" OD
6.0MM .446" OD
8.0MM .545" OD
Clamp
MSC3604 Range .219" to .625"
100% stainless band/hardware = $.45/ea
Stainless Band/ plated hardware = $.41/ea
I cannot mix and match the clamps between the plated and 100% stainless, so if this goes through we would have to decide on one or the other. I need to know how many clamps are needed for the kit. I think future kits sold may include the clamps. It just doesnt seem right to use a nylon 6/6 zip tie on Viton hose.

These, I assume, are screw clamps. Wouldn't spring clamps be better? Or do we really need clamps at all?

I lost count of hose sections in the mid 50s, so i think 130 clamps would work for me. I would rather have a few extra than not enough. I vote for stainless. Would they come to you on tuesday? When could you get them to us? (My rats nest etc are removed at this point...)
Thanks for the info.

Eeee, it looks pretty tight in there to fit screw clamps in some places. It would certainly make it more tedious. Anyone installed screw clamps all around that can comment?
I'll see how things go first - I'm thinking I'll clean all nipples and apply that 3M weatherstrip adhesive for a little extra security.

get the heat stabilized nylon zip ties and you will have a lot fewer problems with them. you can also get the ratcheting style clamps which are reusable (you just push them sideways to release the teeth)

This may not be an issue with Viton.

I got my kit. The stuff looks good, and like hightemp said, it's heavy. I'll be looking out for a good source for spring-clamps, but I've got time since the hose job will be a winter project for next year (I'd rather spend my free time driving while the weather's good).

I completed the hose job today. I decided to go with ties in most places. The old silicone hose was not in good condition so I am happy to get in the viton. I was pleased with this viton, expecially in kink resistance and grip. Obviously this job is a PITA, but considering that I have had an FD for only six weeks it went pretty smoothly. Now on to other issues with my boost. Good luck guys.

just got off the phone with rick from ricks's rotary @ pleasanton, who will be doing the viton hose job for me, he told me he installed a viton hose kit on his car ~10 years ago without any clamps or tie-wraps and they are still good. he says that they will grip enough alone.
good to hear that an install went good. tie-wraps or nething else for extra security is not a bad idea.
