If you think an STi or Evo are more expensive than an FD, you don't understand what you're getting into here. You may pay a little more up front for an Evo or STi, but the FD will continually cost you as long as you own it.

im happy to be paying for my own stuff even though its a pain in the ***, but i do it for the love of it. and all my friends called me stupid and retarded when i turned down an audi r8...fk that the insurance and registration would have been ridiculous.

I too, as much as I love my rotaries, would have taken the R8 if it had been offered. Honestly IMO only an idiot would have turned that offer down.

the registration and insurance alone would have been ridiculous hence i didnt take it, plus that is too much car for me IMO. so be it i am an idiot but atleast im happier with a 7. big difference in owning something u want rather than a substitute that doesnt mean a thing.

It wasnt just buy, i woulda had to pay certain things. like insurance. registration. i chose the fd cuz i figured id be done with the car payments and go back to school faster rather than working just to pay the insurance full coverage, maintenance for an r8. All they woulda covered was monthly. and i pay for everything on the fd lol if the engine breaks id have to pay for it myself. do the math and figure out the costs. its cheaper to get an fd than an r8 =P. There is more reward in paying, and owning something that is yours.

I was going to post the same thing.

I have a multi-millionaire friend who's into cars. He has a couple of Ferraris, a couple of Lamborghinis, Porsches, Aston Martins, a Rolls, a Bentley... and an Audi R8. Of all the fast exoticars he owns, he said the R8 was the best handling and most rewarding to drive.

He's selling the R8 however, he has a new R8 V10 on order.

dont we all wish we were multi-millionaires. if i wasnt planning on going back to school i woulda chosen then r8 end of story lol. but since i would have to quit my full time job. go to school full time and keep my part time job heres the math. part time = 400-600 monthly depending on hourly and its minimum wage. my insurance = 275 full coverage for rx7. r8 = 675. go figure =P like i said parents cover monthly - i cover registration and insurance. so with the money i make when i go back to school does not even cover the costs. Plus id have to buy my own food and gas money. id have to ***** myself out to make ends meet =P....hmnn im not skinny so itd b super hard to find ppl that like some meat ahahaha.

ek7 heres what i did with my parents. if they bought me a brand new car they woulda dropped 30-50k. rx7 was 15k, so far ive dropped 10k. another 4-5k ill b done. an engine rebuild later. so it still comes up to a brand new car. but happiness = does not have a price

scroll up a bit more, or read the full thread, it's been reiterated that another guy posted about an r8 as his first car.

**** that I'll take the R8 anyday... If you have trouble paying for an R8's insurance and registration an FD isn't for you either. The FD maybe cheap to purchase but it's keeping that bitch healthy and happy that gets you.

Also why was your mom so dead set against an Rx-7? I know it's not because it's a sports car since she offered an R8. It's not the money... because right off the lot the R8 costs way more than owning a seven for 10 years. So what's the deal?

If your mom is willing to buy you an Audi R8, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't leave you in the dust and force you to make full payments on the insurance and registration either. Lies, lol.

Buy an S2000... Honda reliability, respectable power, fun to drive, chicks dig convertibles

Not to mention the FJ20 engines are amazing.... easily boost it later & make 500whp on stock internals....

In your current situation you should in NO way consider an FD....

The RX-8 is a great car. It should not be compared to the RX-7. Owning one of these is like having a project car that never ends. It's really like a hobby for most of us and is never quite done as most hobbies are not. There is always going to be something that needs to be done, adjusted, modified and something to monitor when driving. I would not get one unless you have another car to drive. Both cars you are looking at are probably in really good shape. Don't turn one into a daily driver. Most of us have probably wanted an RX-7 for a long time. Don't let that push you and make this something you must do now. There is a right time for this type of car and I bet this is not that time. Sounds like you can drive mostly whatever you want so just get something a little newer and wait until you have the time and money to have a fun project car.

Check all the service records!!! Dont Trust carfax. Look at all the service records!! Theres a post on how to check boost if there is no boost gauge. So look into that also. Enjoy the test drives! Balance it out on ur decision, choose what fits ur situation the best and at the same time what makes u happy. If they r willing to help u with the repairs on the 7 then choose the 7.

The car looked good, no major problems from what i can tell. It had a boost gauge, however im not sure i couldnt really tell if it followed the 10 8 10 boost pattern when accelerating to red line. The ast has been eliminated. It has an automatic shutoff to allow the turbos to cool down. i think there was some smoke that came out of the exhaust during the initial start up but other than that no. The car did warm up pretty fast which im not sure if is normal to 7s. He said he hasn't used the car since October and when we got there the battery was being charged. Paint is really good, interior looks good except for some scratches on the leather. The shift **** looks a lil worn out but the rest looks good. The stock radio has also been replaced.

Reliability Mods: Koyo radiator, relocated overflow tank, custom downpipe, turbo timer, boost and exhaust temp gauges.
Performance Mods: racing clutch, lightened flywheel, 3 inch cat back Pro 1 exhaust, new shocks, front shock tower brace.

According to the guy, he didn't anything to the car besides change the oil after he bought it from "Shaun" at Aspec Tuning in Chicago 3 years ago. He says this was actually owned by another man who went to Shaun to try and get a 20b swap done. The motor was already out until the owner ran out of budget so they returned the original 13b and all the performance other performance parts bought by the owner were also installed anyway. So i was wondering if any one knows if Shaun is a member of this forum.

Ditto that.

Get one done. It's the best indication you can get.

Read this.... http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/buyaused.htm

I love my car and I know there are plenty on here who use them as daily drivers but if my parents were going to buy me a car I would probably take a new z over an rx-7 unless the rx-7 were a museum piece and even then I'd had to waste it on potholes and speedbumps. if it's a daily driver there are so many other things to consider. the rx-7 can't compare when it comes to comfort, safety, new car warranty, etc. It is the looks, driving dynamics, rotary engine and rarity that makes this car great. there will always be one out there to buy. it won't be long and importing them will get easier so we will likely see more late model cars here in the states.

Quick Reply: Hopeful future owner of an RX7
