Yup - the ones on my 1978 928 are doing that at the moment (actually it depends on the weather - sometimes they support the hood perfectly). Not quite sure why I would BS about this.

I'm not saying it does not happen - but both would have to fail simultaneously for the hood to slam. I guess working on lots of cars would increase the risk but I have been hanging out on BMW groups for years and have never seen it mentioned.

Honestly, if your hood is going to be up for that long, just take it off. Makes it much easier to work on the car as well.

Main reason im getting some for next season is i sometimes get nervous on windy days if the car is sitting outside with the hood up. The stock hood is so light, all it takes is one strong gust to pull it up the wrong way and make it fall closed.
