homebrew hi-flow catalytic converter ?

Is it better to just purchase a 3-inch mid-pipe, and weld-in a 3-inch hi-flow catalytic converter (cat), OR cut out the existing cat, and weld-in a hi-flow cat ?

If I'm going to use the original pipe, does anyone know the diameter so I can order the correct converter ?

I was thinking about using a metallic converter found here:

Any other suggestions/comments ?

Thanks,
:-) neil

Stock piping is 2.5" (IIRC).

better to start with a 3" midpipe. the dimensions of the stock cat are different than that of an aftermarket cat.

It's also hard to say how they'll work on a rotary. The price is very reasonable, but it makes you wonder how good it is for the price .

Also, there's no plumbing for the air pump connection. You'd have trouble passing emissions without the air pump hookup, but in Jax that's not a big concern . I'd LOVE to find a cat that could be run on the car without having to run the airpump - one that would keep boost in check and reduce stinkyness.

The metallic substrate cats (which I believe Knightsports is using) are apparently extremely good. FYI, I will be using this cat as well this spring/summer.

I would sooner cut the pipe off of the existing cat and use the cat with 3" pipe. I am told it is actually a pretty good cat.

you can check that pretty easily by unbolting it from the downpipe and shining a light in there while to take a peak. If it is clogged, you'll know it. It will look like your shower drain clumped up with a lot of hair. If it is not, it will look kinda like mesh.

There was a group-buy for them a while back done by Corksport. However, as with most Knightsport performance parts, they are quite pricey.
