home made engine torque brace

Here are a couple of pics of my newly fab'd torque brace. This is a variation on RonKMiller's from a while back. I got the dampener from my local bike shop for 40 bux. Its legnth is just about the same as the turnbuckle listed in RonK's thread. Very effective but still needs a little tweaking (clearance over ABS unit is too close for comfort). Yeah, it's kind of ghetto but it works well, doesn't transmit any noticeable vibration, and best of all, I made it myself. Many thanks to RonKMiller!

Cool. Is that shock off (or for) a mountain bike? Can it handle the heat off the turbos? Time will tell I guess. How much did you spend putting it together? I made my own too but it's static, no compression.

Yup, that's a mountain bike shock all right. It also has an air valve to adjust amount of damping. I pondered the heat question as well but, as you say, luizajeff, time will tell. I drove the car for quite a while and then checked the temp. It actually felt pretty cool to the touch. Cooler than I expected. Total cost was about $60. Could have bought one for a little more but it's more fun to do my own work. Static brace makes sense. I'd read a lot of posts complaining about vibration being too pronounced which is why I went with the shock. However, I suspect the problems were more related to bad motor mounts or hard connection points. If the shock gives out I'll go static.
