HKS Twin Power Ignition - who has it and just how good is it?
I am familar with the Jacobs unit.
But I like the idea of the HKS being a direction plug in and easy to install.
What do u notice in HP and TQ?
idle smoother?
Better MPG?
Does it make the engine detonate easier due to a higher spark/temps?

I am also interested in this. From what I have gathered, I believe that it is really only good for more power at higher rpms. If you notice on most dyno sheets around 7.5k - 8.5k rpms that there is a lot of break up (the lines go up and down really jagged and fast). The unit is suppose to smooth this out and help with overall power. Anyone else? I know a lot of people have it. Post up
the other question to ask is how well it works with the stock coils...spyfish007 noted that the jacobs unit will fry the stock coils and that I should get the upgraded coils if i do the jacobs unit.
will the hks unit need the coil upgrade as well?
Im looking at doing this mod at the end of the month before my dyno tuning....any input from the guys who have tried this product is appreciated.

My car seemed weak above 6000 so I bought an HKS.
Ran fine for about a day and then the idle became very lumpy and A/F ratio gauge showed up as rich. I thought something was wrong with my HKS. Well, it turned out I had the PoMan Water Injection! The HKS was lighting off the mixture even with water added to mix at idle. I block weld the engine and the car has been running great. The only down side is that it is using water at a rate of about 8-12 oz every 30 miles.
To prevent the add coolant light/buzzer, I mounted a Volvo expansion coolant tank behind my M2 large. No more add coolant light and the reservoir is now above the engine.
I know it's ghetto rigging but hell I only put 5K a year on the car, and don't feel like dropping $3k just yet for a reman.
Yes, I think the twin power helps; I see it listed at PFS's website so it must do something right for Peter to stock it.

yeah, i actually heard this from one of the RX7.com guys that the jacob unit in the FD gets the coils hot and will fry the coils on continuious runs.
Also, they said that it will burn the combustion more fully, thus less pollution but there might be a leaner run due to a fuller burn. So he advised on richer A/F ratio.
I had it on my FC long time ago and did notice smoother engine and more torque on low end and higher end HP.

I have the unit installed on my car. It does indeed help with break up on the top end. I had 2 dynos one before the HKS install and one after, although now I can do a run and then turn it off and do a run to compare. But at the time, I had an M2 stage 3 ecu so no ability to tune for the hks as far as fuel. With only the hks unit installed, according to Brian at M2 since he tunes them to be richer to be safer, the extra spark also helped down low as well. If I had done a wide band run before and after, before it would have been richer (ex. 10.5:1) and after the HKS the A/F would have shown maybe soemthing like 11.4 or 5 :1 so it does help burn the extra fuel thats already in there. Wade was also wanting to know if any ignition system really help with HP that was already running as lean as you would want it to be. On my car, with it helping to ignite the extra fuel inherent in the M2 maps, it made 8 rwhp across the rom range, give or take 2 rwhp. Peak torque increased by 19 to the wheels, with it being up 10 to 15 across the rpm range. The entire curve of both hp and torque being raised, not just some peak number.
Don't need aftermarket coils with the hks unit and it hasn't burned mine out in the 3 years I've had it.

true, i heard that the HKS is just fine with the factory coils.
but the Jacobs yields greater HP/TQ numbers but at the cost of the coils after a while.
Other drawback of the jacobs is that u have to splice the wires where the HKS plugs right in..

I had some issues with Breakup in the HIGH RPMS
during WOT.. So I tuned out some fuel using my
pfc commander..
Since I got the HKS power amp, I returned my Fuel settings to what they were, and have NOT gotten
that Break up @ high RPMS during WOT..
Hope t his helps

Anyone out there using this on a car boosting 25+psi? I need some feedback on this because I need an ignition upgrade for my car, and I like the way the HKS unit works, but I need some hard data on it with anyone with a single boosting high.

I pulled a plug and grounded it to my cylinder head and could watch the spark (injestors disabled) as I turned the car over (in garage with lights very low). I then turned on the twin power and the spark intensity was atleast twice what it was before. I know it's not real scientific... but the results speak for themselves.
I recommend it for Supras... I'd be surprised if it didn't help out the rotary too.
You will make more power with the HKS then you will with the Jacobs, because the HKS is the only one on that fires both leading and trailing plugs.
It takes 10-15 minutes to install, and you will get some extra horsepower as well.
With the other amps, they can fry your coils.

i heard the jacobs is better since it hold a longer spark on the same plugs.
this negates the need to have both plugs firing, which IMHO emulates what the jacobs is tryingto accomplish.
i wish someone had Dyno comparisons between the 2 ignition units.
