Question HKS Twin Power: Ideal for a relatively stock FD?

I'm considering purchasing a HKS twin power for my FD. However, is it ideal (smart move) for a relatively stock FD?

I don't think it's necessary, especially when you have an empty engine bay to fill up with more necessary parts, such as an engine

I didn't notice a difference with or w/o it on my moderately modded FD. Just make sure your plugs and wires are good and that your coils are working properly and you should be good to go.

For a near-stock FD, I would not bother. Spend the money on new plugs/wires and call it "done".

Rich...Good point... I was thinking a bit ahead for the future, ok?!

Hey, you never know when companies will just stop making such a product these days!

I don't think the HKS Twin Power will stop being produced. At least not anytime soon.

To answer your question. No, an ignition amplifier is not ideal for a relatively stock idea. Reason being, the stock fuel system is not putting out any more fuel that can't be burned by the stock ignition system. So their is no need for an ignition amp. It would just kill your plugs faster.

I would recommend spending that $300 or so that it costs for a Twin Power on an exhaust.

Thanks for the input and info, guys.

My car isn't running right now, I was just curious.

I have an exhaust (RB dual tip and 3" dp).

worked great for me. faster starts, better low end throttle response, better smog test readings. and if you add a water / meth kit later your going to need it , so its good to add it now if you can afford it. but get the wiring harness for fast install.

i get slightly better gas mileage (1mpg) but it definately eats plugs way faster. The only reason i have it is because i am keeping the powerFC on this car and not getting another electromotive

I would think it would be ideal for your setup. However, I could be wrong.

Yes!. street port and larger injectors will need better ignition spark to burn combustion. may get a better idle with twinpower.

How about with 4x850cc injectors, street-port, and water aux. injection ?

Think a HKS twin power is necessary ?

Eh, not sure about this.

I've posted like 17 million times on this subject, but cliff notes:

I ran different Jacobs boxes for years and was pretty happy with them, although their penchant for failure led me to try the HK$ twinpower out.

In a nutshell, I was very happy. Better idle, better throttle response, better pull at all rpms. Granted I'm running a single setup with 400+ rwhp, but idle and driveability were greatly increased over both the Jacobs setup and also running no amp. I wish I would have installed one many years ago to be honest

you should get the same life out of your plugs with the twin power. But I did here someone recommend not to use platinum plugs only copper with the hks twinpower. I use the stock 7 and 9 plugs no problems yet car runs fine.

So you're using the bur7eq and bur9eq without the P in the end right? I got some free ngk stock replacement platinums that I might as well use.

slightly off topic, but where do you guys pick up the HKS twin powers? I know it's tailored for rx7's but how does it stack up against the MSD stuff. I have access to MSD locally, but is it worth the extra to go for the HKS?

Yes the stock copper plugs. use the free ones since you have them. try a set of copper I bet they work just fine for you.

you can buy them from many shops ( rx7 store, rx7.com, etc). its plug and play with the FD hks harness and its rotary specific. I wouldn't go with anything else. there is even a stock threaded hole for it under the hood on the left shock tower and it fits perfect.

I know there was a vendor on the forum that was selling them... but I think it might have been a limited time thing.
