HKS t04z or t51r kit for the fd?

I know the t51r is bigger laggier and more power than the t04z.
the build will be nothing specific, more of a quality period correct street car.

I’ve got a t51r supra in the build and thought it would be really rare and unique to have the fd a t51r as well?
but t04z would be nice too

for what you're going for, either will be fine. they both have the super cool compressor housings with all the stage presence. the t51r is more recognizable but i think the t04 is more appropriate for the fd engine bay

I agree with FDAUTO, if you are going to period correct like this, T04Z is definitely the "newer" one but still older tech with the T51R compressor noise but much better drivability. If is only the noise you are going after and not really the look or the actual part, you can have the T51R "mod" done to pretty much any modern turbo with a 4" inlet.

Have a supra w the Hks t51r build. And wanted to keep it Hks as well and thought it would be unique and really cool to have both t51r.
but I’m sure the t04z has enough power and is still cool even without the high whistle ☺️

I totally understand. I'm a huge HKS fan. I just wish they made upgraded twins for the FD. If I were doing a full build I would probably go the same route and do a T51R or T51KAI just to be period correct. I'm building/restoring to period correct sequential at the moment but hoping HKS will be making the super turbo exhaust in full titanium like they recently did for the GTR.

T04Z. The T51R is laggy and slow, tech has come a very long way since then. T04Z has at least seen some revision since the 90's

Got it thanks guys. I think t04z is the way for the fd. At least it would be more fitting for the car but still keep the Hks jdm turbo kit. And keep the nimbleness of the fd platform still alive. The t51r is most likely quite laggy and a straight line type of car.
I’m pretty sure the t04z on high boost (20-25psi?) would still make over 500whp? I imagine That would still be crazy fast for the fd

i'm not sure normal people at a car show would really know the difference between a T51 and a T04Z, so you could IMO, use the one that you can find.
T04Z would probably be the better driving choice

T04 GT III R will give you EFR 8374 power, but about 1000-1,500rpm later spool, around 4,500 RPM. That's the difference between having boost available as soon as you put your foot down on the highway, vs having to shift or wait for it to build. Street driving it will feel a lot slower, especially on a freeway over-take.
