*soon to come (HKS bov) venting to the atmosphr

only thing i need to install the PFC F-CON is a eprom chip. everything else is there all hooked up.. but the unit is unpluged..

one more thing, will it be ok to take off my cat?? after I ADD the HKS PFC F-CON.

Are you sure that unit is compatible with the FD???

According to HKS website, it isn't.

In regards to your question. If you do get an aftermarket ECU that is tuneable. You could run a midpipe but would still need some type of boost controller.

In fact, in your list of mods you didn't mention if you had a boost gauge and boost controller. I think this is a must before you start to tune with a new ECU.

Having a boost controller will NOT allow you to run a midpipe safely, get a high flow cat or port your wastegate, boost controllers cant stop boost creep.

I was talking with one of my friends and he said that this Unit. pretty much makes the car run a little richer.... I always run 91 octane.. I try to keep it below 5rpm.. when im driving around the city .. u know not to beat on it... its hard not to... ohh and one more thing..

I have a Greddy FMIC 3row for a Twin Turbo supra that was on my Lexus... the IC is pretty BIG.. or should i say HUGE.. I wanted to put on the RX7.. i dunno if it will fit cuz its too big .. but right now I have the this one.. i forgot what brand. but yeah.. I painted the top black to look stock cuz i didn't want the Smog place to be bitching saying ohh can't do it. u need the stock one. haha .but ya.. SO I thought about replacing mine with a Front Mount.... or should i keep the one i have.. honestly i like how the front mount looks on the car.. .

also check out this link that says they make it for the FD's

one more thing... I'm getting a HKS BOV.. and since it comes with the pipe.. im thinking about putting it between the IC and the intake mani. if you look at the pic above just repace taht plastic hose right there.. it should be fine if i block off the other one right... ?

The HKS F-con and FCD is NOT what you want to be running on your FD. It is essentially 6-year old technology and there's MUCH, MUCH better solutions for running on an FD.

The best thing would be to run a standalone ecu like the Apexi Power FC. The next best thing would be to just run a chipped stock ecu like the M2 or Pettit ecu. Either of those solutions would be 10 times better than the HKS solution.

Because it's free doesn't mean it's a good idea. The FD really needs to be done *right* if you want to keep it running happily. A free fuel computer isn't cheap if it blows your engine!

HKS designed the FCON around a VERY specific set of modifications. If you drift outside those specifications, who knows. Not a lot of people in the US have run it, and personally I wouldn't risk a motor guinea pigging the thing.

If you don't have money for a proper fuel computer, you DO NOT need to remove your high flow cat. That's just silly. Get a boost controller, keep your boost at 10psi and save your pennies for a PowerFC. Not to mention you'll have to track an EPROM down for the FCON, which will not be that easy or cheap either.

If you don't have money to do things on the car right, don't rush it with half-assed mods.

I agree 100% with Dale...just because it's free doesn't make it worth using! Run the stock ecu with a manual boost controller, keep the cat on, and save your money until you can afford a solution that actually works well. You can even sell the F-con and FCD for a little cash to help you on your way.

Check Ebay - I see chipped ECU's going for very reasonable prices all the time. The PowerFC is far better and more flexible than a chipped ECU, IMHO, but does cost more.

BTW, a new PowerFC and commander is about $750 - VERY good price for what you get.
