Talking Nice intake pipes

Looks pretty similar to the new Greddy/Trust escept that the HKS curves in to the fender behind the headlight. The question is: Is the HKS filter than the Trust...both look like foam.

Can't upload the picture (too large) but the rx7store sells it.

i paid a little over half of that for mine.. its still overly expensive for two pieces of foam at the end of a pipe

it was the very first thing i bought for my car and i just liked the way it looked

I can get you the HKS and Greddy intakes with the polished piping, but they are special order only from Japan. Thats why I dont list them at the rx7store. If you need one let me know.

Hey I live in Rancho Bernardo too. I don't have an fd but I have been wanting one for awhile now and hopefully soon I will get one. Right now i have a 96 Trans-Am. I have been doing a ton of research on rx-7's, but I havent really seen too many up close. All the san diego guys should meet up somewhere. I really want to see if an stock FD can keep up with my car. Do any of you guys ever go to Qualcomm for the 1/8 mile drags?? or Autocross??

There is one on ebay right now. I haven't head any problem from Qball, he had them on his FD for long time.

Well those Racing Suctions.. if they're listed at 65,000 yen.. thats about $535 US.. give or take a few bucks.. and if you get it from a HKS vendor in Japan who has a discount with HKS.. its even cheaper for them.. so if Taka Kaira is selling them for $750.. even with the cost to ship over here and paying duties / tariffs and whatnot.. they still make a good amount off people here.. hehe.. They probably have to hike up the price because the volume is so low..

The problem i was referring to was with the green version, it was chipping away (the foam) in to the intake for the amount of heat exposer. I read that at the lighting in a world of thunder website. An there was a japanese tuner mag that did a test on them and the hks(green foam) did not filter well atually rather poorly. Apex had good remarks as well as Blitz.

The horsepower above the basline (stock intake) was 14hp with the HKS(green foam) though.

Actually there two from the same vendor on ebay, and they set the reserve on those for $420. So its alot cheaper than the sites that have them for $550.

If you actually read the "entire" article (check the bottom of it), they didn't actually do those tests themselves. In which case they state that the tests might just be PR marketing to get lesser known products more exposure since Blitz and HKS sell more induction kits than anyone (BTW, if you looked at the test, Blitz was rated low for filtering as well).

As far as the foam, it does get brittle over time from the heat. In that case, it just needs to be replaced. Sure, if you leave the filters on for 7 years, they will get brittle, break apart and fly into your intake. However, all it requires is a little maintenance which is no more than the rest of the car requires.

Just to add on.... i got my blitz SUS for $340 out the door (which is way more than the apexi). The main grabber was that it had the heat shield included (bolts on and off in 1 or 2 minutes). Here in So. Cal the weather is either "hot" or "even hotter". Throw in some typical traffic and you have yourself an over-heated FD pretty easily.
Oh yeah, once a month I take a vaccuum to clean the filters (once again, a few minutes at most). I hated having to wait for the K&N filter element to completely dry after washing, cleaning up after over-oiling, etc....
yes, i bitch about everything...

IMO, the Blitz is the best looking open intake available for the FD. I love it, just wish it was in stock when I was ordering parts.

how do those all metal filters actually filter stuff? so they don't have any sort of fiber or foam filter elements?

Nah, it's just a really fine metal mesh/screen. Like someone earlier said, it prob doesn't filter as well as some others, but it's really low maintenance, and I can actually see tiny pieces of dirt and debris on the sides.

I was thinking of combining the two (unless I go Knightsports). I currently have the Blitz and love the filters but it still leaves the rubber hoses.

I could get M2 or FX7F polished pipes or I was thinking of combining the HKS RS kit with HKS metal mesh filters but i'm not shure if they would fit. They do make small ones similar in size but not exactly shure how close.
