Question HKS Din Panel Question w/ PIC

I recently purchased a AEM Gauge-Type Wideband UEGO Controller which is 52mm. I want to mount it but dont want to mount it in on the pillar. I track the car pretty often, and I already hate the left A-pillar and the left side-view mirror. I dont want to put the gauge on the a-pillar. Since the Uego Gauge will only be used for minor tuning, I want to place it out of the way. The center-channel is where I'm thinking to mount the Boost/EGT gauges. I've been looking for a din-panel which can hold my Uego. HKS has one made for the FD and has spots for either two more gauges or two head-units (depending on what panel you buy). Everything is great, the only problem is it's setup for a 46mm gauge.

Now for the question, does anyone have one of these DIN Panels? Is there enough room to modify the housing to accomodate a 52mm gauge?

Also, are there any other DIN Panel manufacturers anyone knows of? I've tried searching for hours...nothing. All i foung was some old thread in like '03 for some plexiglass prototype. Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Pic is from a Nissan 300ZX I believe.

You can get the audio guys to custom make these type panels. And yeah, you can fit a 52mm gauge in the 1 din space below the HU. Kinda tight though.

Thanks for the responses guys. Does anyone have a HKS din plate though? I want to know how much space is there betweent he top, bottom, left, and right of the 42mm gauge hole. If there's enough room to grind it to 52mm, I'll buy it. Soni, if it's not modifiable to 52mm, I'll pick up one of your carbon fiber ones (look a million times better than those plastic ones). Please make sure the two HKS units will fit though. Thanks!

I can make it to spec. Its much easier to mount a 42mm rather than a 52mm gauge in there. I can do alot of different things with that. I am working on a double din panel that houses an I pod and a couple of gauges or 1/2 din size units.

Yes it will fit, I have it in my car presently. I did have to get out the rotozip to make it fit, and in the process the crummy plastic face came off the metal enclosure! The metal enclosure makes it a pita to route all the wires. If I had to do it all again, I would buy the guy above's panel (though I don't necessarily like carbon fiber) and mount the gauges it it. Or, purchase a double din Toyota cupholder, put it in the cubby hole and mount the gauges in a pod where the center bose speaker fits.

Thanks rotoober. I'll most probably pick up Soni's version. Soni, I'll let you know soon. Whatever way I do choose, I will definately post pics of the install. Thanks everyone!

You asked for some photos.. so.. Also got my new momo wheel in this weekend and even modified a used cruise control to work with it. Helped LOTS with me fitting the car - no my knee does not hit the wheel when shifting or heel/toe!
I think it turned out quite well.
Gauges have chrome ring, and are angled twards driver. I think it has an almost stock look. Actually looks better in real life than these pictures.

Hey Rotoober, that's the HKS Din panel which you modified? Nice work/setup. What difficulties did you have during the modification, you mentioned something about the plastic seperating from the metal? Thanks.

It was the 3 gauge variety set up, I've got three 52.4mm (2 1/16) autometer gauges. It required some precision rotozip workmanship. The plastic face is glued to the metal "box" or enclosure that you can bolt to the back of the dash. All the vibraration from rotoziping the holes to make the larger gauges fit loosened up the face from the "box". I can't remember, but I may have gotten rid of the box itself and the gauges are mounted to the plastic faceplate only. If you are into carbon fiber the guys plate above would be an easy install.

Here's a quick shot of mine from a forum member here. The center is awaiting a 52mm wideband gauge set-up like you purchased for daily monitoring.

Question, what holds the DIN plate in place, doublesided tape? Also, is it possible to move the radio unit to the bottom and place the gauges on top?

I honestly can't remember how it is attached to the a/c panel, it could be glued in place. An aftermarket radio could be placed almost anywhere, but I do remember that the antenna lead was fairly short. The stock radio has a ton of connectors and I can't remember if it had long enough leads to move it, but nothing a bit of soldering and shrink wrap wouldn't fix if you just have to move it.

Here's some pics of my gauge install.

If you like the DIN Panel, contact sonix7 (carbonfiberinnovation.com), he made these for me. If you want the placeholders, let him know because they dont come with them unless requested.

Words of Advise (if installing yourself):

Unless you have a particular reason for the Bocsh O2 sensor to be on the downpipe, don't put it there. Put it on the midpipe/hi-flow cat pipe. You will save many hours of hard work and you wont have to worry about stripping screws on the turbo-manifold mounting point for the downpipe. You have to remove the whole thing and get the boss/bung welded to it. If you do it on the midpipe/hi-flow, you will save a whole lot of time and effort.

Make sure you mark your boss/bung weld point with the pipe STILL bolted on. You can mess up and weld it at an angle that puts the O2 sensor close to heatsheilds/piping.

Also, leave some room for movement as the motor rocks right and left under throttling.

Wow, turned out great! I'm going to be mounting my Innovative unit in the same place this weekend (assuming it shows up). Where did you connect to for the +12v heater for the sensor?

Just another option. I have a DIN panel that snaps into place so you don't have to use double sided tape to hold it in there. Bought it on ebay a year or so ago, but I haven't seen any on there in a while. It also came with place holders that snap in and look really nice since I am only using 1 gauge right now.

hey rotoober, i did the removing/welding portion of the instaal. I took it to a trusted friend "Elite Motorsports" in Redondo Beach to get the electrical done. I'll find out what he used as the 12v source.

nice, i saw those but i wanted cf. I was originally going to use double sided tape but my buddy's had a metal mounting bin for Din panel place holders. He just mounted my din panel to that and installed it.

i just bought one of those DIN gauge pods. 25 bucks shipped is a great price and it clips right into the DIN area
