HKS BOV question

I know this guy who has a HKS bov and a fmic. he still has the stock bov and actuator going to the intake and has the hks welded to the ic piping. I was wondering what purpose this surves? is it over kill? I know that it is working because i can hear it when he autox's but im confused on whats its purpose is. it looks like its used for the ic but i cant see how that works. anyone know? Jeff, maybe you know, its steves car. im just wondering.

It really wont do anything except allow the charged air to exit more rapidly, more BOV's equals faster air release. I have seen people who are running really high boost levels weld 2 high performance BOV's next to each other to aid in the blow off. Keep in mind that they were pushing in upwards of 30psi, realistically you only need one good BOV especially if you arent running really high boost(30+).

Ok but i guess i dont understan where the air is comeing from that it blows off, on the HKS that is. it has a vacum line running to it like the stock ones but thats all that is see.

The air comes out of the turbos and up threw the y-pipe, then through the intercooler piping, through the intercooler, then into your intake elbow.

The stock BOV(or actuator or whatever you wish to call it) has a hose running to it that goes to the y-pipe mentioned above. Venting the air at that point. Then the HKS which is mounted on the intercooler piping vents air at the point it's mounted at. Both BOV's should have a small vacum line running to the intake manifold though.

Both BOV's should vent at the same time, both vent the same air, and I see no real harm in this other than it's probably overkill if you're on stock twins.

Alot of single turbo guys actually run two BOV's depending on which kind of BOV's/how much psi their running.
