typical HKS--they take parts they developed in the 90's, change them slightly (not that a BB upgrade isn't an improvement), and charge more than they're worth. Greddy is doing the same thing these days--repackaging 90's turbos for newer applications. The Greddy Rx-8 and 350Z turbo kits are well-known to be pretty flawed.

It must be the slump in the whole tuner scene that is slowing development.

Slump? More like a death spiral.

I was surprised to find anyone making new parts for an FD, but this being warmed over old stuff explains it.

I recently had a conversation with a buddy of mine who got me into the import scene about 5 years ago. We were talking about how the "Big Three" -- Apex'i, HKS, and Greddy, pretty much haven't made any new parts except exhausts for years now. All the smaller suppliers and shops (Corksport, Racing Beat, and their equivalents on other platforms) are getting more and more of the market that hasn't been taken up by ebay parts.
