I know people think the hitch is a silly thing to put on a sports car, but having a trailer is a huge help for going to the track. It doesn't weigh much, you can hardly see it with the hitch bar thingy removed, and it isn't that prone to rubbing (though I have scraped it a few times, it is less likely to rub than my old GReddy PE exhaust can was). A car hauler (to put the track car on) would be even better, of course, but the little tire trailer works great and is relatively cheap.
Here's a pic of my trailer with the plywood box. Four 245 tires fit in one row inside the box, but the 285s fit just fine with all the other crap in there, too. I just put 3 in a row with the 285s and then the last one goes on top of some other crap. It is unreal how much crap you can fit in there. I usually take four 18x10" wheels, three tool boxes, a few boxes of fluids, a little chair-toolbox thing with brake stuff in it, two folding chairs, an EZ-Up portable canopy, two jack stands, and a big floor jack. My 10x10 EZ-Up lays on the bottom in the middle, sticking out of a little hole in the front of the box. It would be better if the EZ-Up was elevated, though, because piling stuff on top of it has worn through the carrying case and I expect that it will wear through the canopy in a few spots at some point.

Another plus: reduced chance of death by flying wheel inside the car in the event that you get in a crash on the way to the track. Driving with all that stuff packed in the car is a bit unnerving (sp?). Tires smell, too.

Hey Damian you wouldn’t happen to have a pic of the hitch receiver assembly strait on level with the plain of the car to show how far it really protrudes down do you? Maybe without a hitch in so we could see what it looks like when driving around without a trailer.
Thanks for all the great archiving.
cough more videos cough

Here's another pic attached where you can just make out the tip of the receiver under the catback and a better one with the rear of the car rising so you can see under it slightly.

make sure you get some saftey goggles and maybe gloves for when you are drilling the aluminum bumper. lots of little shavings from drilling! i did this on my back in my driveway and i was covered in metal shavings. even got some close to my nostrils.
i was able to slide the U shaped bolts up into the bumper using my finger and drop it down through the holes. you might not need to fab something like damian did. i just said **** it with regards to that center bolt.
