Okay Eagle Eyes. Absolutely amazing that you were able to perceive a 30mph difference, let alone while you are doing 150mph.

Read this thread again from the very beginning...

quoted from rynberg
"Some of you guys are hilarious. If you think that an aftermarket body kit designed solely for looks improves the aerodynamics of a car that Mazda spent hundreds of hours in a wind tunnel on, you need help....."

quoted from jimlab
"Personally, I'd recommend people with stock aero combinations (stock front and/or rear spoilers, '99-spec front bumper, etc.) stay under 165 mph if you value your skin. If you have a body kit, I would not assume that it had any sort of testing whatsoever, and it'd be a pretty shitty way to find out by having something going wrong on a top speed run because the body kit you bought was designed for the car show circuit, not for 100+ mph speeds, if you know what I mean."

quoted from rynberg
"...you obviously have no understanding of aerodynamics and are giving C-west, Veilside, Ings, etc, far too much credit." (in response to Fred Sickert's comment of "aren't most of those kits modeled after race cars ? I would think that if they are solid, and solidly mounted, they should be fine.")

quoted from Kento
"...simply "modeling" (read: styling) a piece of bodywork "after a race car", and actually replicating an engineered product are two different things entirely..."

I think you get the idea now....

I have hit 170 in my fd and it stuck really well to the road and it had a little more left in it when i only had intake and exhaust mod. It was fun

I used to spend a lot of time out near Edwards Air Force Base and there were some really long fairly smooth deserted roads out there. There was one in particular that usually had a wicked tail wind and you could really fly. I could get cars to reach speeds on that road they never could without a tail wind. So keep this in consideration when you talk about top speeds on the road. How else could I have hit 160mph in a brick shaped '83 Volvo 240 turbo (highly modified but still... and yes it floated... badly... no BS).

I am older and more responsible and wouldn't do some of the stuff I did back then even though the roads were deserted and I was a danger to noone but myself.

I keep most of my crazy stuff on the track these days but still enjoy a good run in the twisties up on the mountains where you can have a lot of fun under 80mph.

And in regards to the original thread - My stock body FD with R1 front air dam and no rear wing feels pretty good up to 150mph or so. It has an M2 Stage 3 package and will hit in the low 170s but it's not super comfortable with my track spec alignment (kinda darty).

I did the "Nevada Open Track Challenge" with a friend in a BMW M5 a couple of years ago. We were supposed to average 140mph which that car did without breaking a sweat. We weren't supposed to ever go over 150 but I can tell you that car (speed limiter has been removed) is still rock solid at 175mph.

And one more note. I hit a jack rabbit at 140mph once. It did significant damage to the front end of the car. It was a big rabbit but still a small animal! Imagine what a deer or cow would have done. Or if I had been going 180mph. So even if you're in the middle of nowhere be careful!

so with all this talk about stock and aftermarket aerodynamics at high speeds, whats your guys take on rear diffusers. are there any specific brands that you think would help(or hurt) at 150+?
