High Boost after Non-Sequential Mod

Well, due to the fact that I couldn't get the turbos to work properly after the vacuum mod, I decided that going sequential would work and simplify the whole equation. It works well, aside from the fact that the boost seems somewhat unlimited. What would cause the boost to go over the 7-8psi that should result without pills in the line? The only mod on the car is a catback exhaust. The "mod" was done the "cheap" way, where I basically wired the TC open and re routed/removed some vacuum lines.

Any suggestions on how I could be getting such high boost? I have to let out of it at high RPM, as the boost hits 12psi and keeps climbing.

sounds like you need to port your wastegate

don't mess around with boost creep, it will kill your motor real quick....killed two of mine

Is one of the lines between the wastegate and wastegate solenoid popped loose or open to air? If the solenoid isn't well connected to the actuator, and the actuator to the compressor nipple, you will have unlimited boost.

Did you get to try the simplified sequential with the charge control and charge relief actuators properly plugged in?

As far as porting the wastegate... ehhh sounds like a last resort.

Dave, no I did not try changing the lines around. Unfortunately I did the mod before I read your reply, so the turbo control is off the car.

Here's the latest on the current issue of seemingly unlimited boost. I unplugged the wastegate control solenoid (the wire). Accordingly, I only get 7 psi of boost, which, compared to the alternative, isn't so bad. Now I'm going to try leaving the plug off of the wastegate control solenoid and putting a manual boost controller on the wastegate line and see if I can up the boost that way. Would there be any issue with leaving the wastegate solenoid harness unhooked?

And while I'm at it, I was thinking of running around 11psi of boost. The car is stock aside from a catback exhaust. Anyone have any advise on the boost amount?

I've read to keep it as close to stock as possible. I'd say 12psi would be the limit. I think I got that number from somewhere, but I can't be sure.

I was disappointed that you stopped troubleshooting your problem as I'm having the same one and was following what you did to fix it. lol. Good luck with the non-seq ...

I would leave the boost level at the stock 10psi with only a catback. I think you are going to experience some serious turbo lag with the non-seq setup and the limited amount of mods you have. I wouldnt port the wastegate untill i checked to see if the manual boost controller fixes the problem.

Thanks.

I went out and disconnected the WG solenoid and put the boost controller in there. I got it to hold a rock steady 9-10 psi. It will spike to about 11 or so in 1st gear, but the other gears hold rock steady to redline. I assume there's no issue with leaving the wastegate control unplugged? When I plug it in, even with the boost controller turned all the way down, the car still goes up to 10+ psi when I'm on it.

Oh yeah, and there is considerable lag, but after exhaust mods that should be fixed. I am able to stay in the boost going through all gears as it is right now. Some crazy BMW tried to mess with me on the interstate on my test drive. Foolish hound.

I've got a Greddy 3" Down-pipe, stock main cat, then APEXi N1 catback.

I'm running stock twins too on sequential at the moment, and I'm currently reading all on the How To's of how to go non-sequential.

I do have an old-school APEXi AVC-D boost-controller. I should learn how to use it, so maybe I can help eliminate this bad turbo-lag everyone is talkin' about.

I guess that's my question. With my current setup, should I experience bad turbo lag, or any other problems? Suggestions anyone?

Why do you want to go non-sequential? A boost controller is not going to reduce the considerable lag you will have running non-sequential with only those mods. You will make less power from 0-4000 rpm, a little more from 4000-4500 rpm, and then the same above 4500 rpm. Not worth it unless it's a track car or you have a problem you just can't solve.
