Exclamation hideous sucking noise....

HELP!!!!!

Friday night while leaving i let the owner of the restaurant i am the executive chef at drive my fd. he is a driving instructor for the porsche club of america, so , i know that he can drive....well, to shorten this as much as possible, i got back in my car shortly after his drive, and while leaving the parking lot and getting onto the frontage road, i noticed this very exaggerated scratchy sucking noise coming from what appears to be the passesger side of the engine compartment. i noticed that it starts at about 3K rpm, and right about the 'zero' setting on the boost gague. the car still wants to pull boost and does a little, but the noise that i am hearing appears to be 'intake' related, and hopefully not involving a fucked up turbo.

if anyone out there has any suggestions, let me know.....i am open....i checked the vacuum lines that i could see w/o taking the intake manifold off, but i am off labor day and plan on doing a more extensive search......

thanks

-louis

I suggest you check the hose and rubber hose clamps from the turbos to the intercooler. If there is a leak there you will hear hissing and genrate low boost.

I had the exact same noise in same area after I let my brother take it out for a spin... turned out a vacuum hose was collapsing upon acceleration

Yep I went throught the same thing. Just make sure everything is on tight and if worse come to worst take it to a dyno and have someone listen to it while you accelerate.

I've had that problem a couple times. Open the hood and have someone feel around all of the boost hose connections while you kinda rev the engine. The person should be able to feel the leak. You should be able to generate a little boost just revving, enough to feel the leak. Its probably the hose that comes off the Y-pipe and connects to the plastic crossover tube. You can order replacement parts from the dealer order new silocone parts from pettit or somebody or go to a local hose/rubber shop and get some silicone impregnated hose or some marine exhaust hose. A big rig shop may have some hose too, just depends on your budget and dont put the hose clamps on too tight, just use two fingers on a 1/4 inch drive and when it gets hard they should be tight enough.

The only way that I found cracks in the intercooler hoses whas to actually take them off and inspect them. They are a bugger to check while on the car. not too difficult to take of and put back on (I've done it three times), but worth the effort.

I am now back to an 11-10-12 pattern
