Hi, introducing myself....
My name's Jay. From Northeast Ohio. Purchase my fd 2 weeks ago, from a heart surgeon who kept this thing in storage. This is my 3rd car. Im 17 years old. Got bored with my civic, and was way to slow. The car was in excellent shape except for the cheap mazda paint thats on it. I've only seen 3 3rd gen's in NE ohio, 1 of which i see every saturday at the local show (whats up balljoint if you read these forums).
So yea, I've done some reliabilty mods ot this car but im looking forward to putting a lot of my $ and time into this car. Please dont hate on my if I ask some off the wall quesitons about whats going on with my car.
Check out my cardomain page www.cardomain.com/id/1993rex7
Thanks guys-

The car is in nice shape, including the paint job.
I have your blow-off valve but that is about it. I opted to go for the greddy type S after getting tired of the sound being just as loud as a vented stock charge relief valve and not really what I want since I've started the nessessary mods to go single.
Anyway, I think you should include larger injectors in your modifications to come. Maybe some custom 1300cc injectors to handle your mods and a boost controller to prevent boost spikes. Your restricter pills might not be sufficient for the mods you are doing.
Also think about a better platform than the Apexi fuel controller, it is afterall a piggy back and has its limits. Go with a stand alone, do it right the first time.
What fans are you talking about? Radiator? Are yours broke? Because the stock ones are about as good as they get. Do the fan modification so that you can switch them on high on a hot day.
Good-luck and don't forget to do that vacuum modification.

injectors hook right up to your fuel rail right? If im buying new injectors is it mandatory to do any other mods? Also how much cna I expect to pay for the stand alone system? Sounds expensive.
Should my first mod be biggeer injectors?
And, I need something to fix my gears, 3rd an d5th are way to close for me, any suggestions?
And how come my sig works hlaf the time

When it comes to your injectors if you go with the 1300cc they will fit in the stock fuel rail if you go with the 1600cc you should buy a whole kit and then you have to remove the ACV or AVR or something like that for them to fit .... IF you go with bigger injectors you will need a better fuel pump and a new ECU to control them ... what mods do you have??
If you use the post reply box at the bottom of the thread it will show your sig if you click the reply box you have to select the checkbox that says show sig ..

Not many at the moment I got an aluminum AST and a blowoff valve. Some guy with a red FD here in ohio (the only FD ive seen/heard about with 4 seats) said "Beware of the 3." Im like... huh? he said every 3rd mod, your ecu will hit the fan. Whats the deal. I've made $2,000 recent on posters ive sold, so I have a pretty penny to spend on my car, just not to familiar with rotory engines, compared to my other 4banger civic
Anyways, what advantages will I gain with new injectors. And seeing as what they do, ill probably need something for fuel managment, where can I find a good price on some stand alone system?
Thanks for bieng helpful, much appreicated from a "newb"

Welcome to the forum....fortunatly for you...your in Ohio...wich = Rx7store.net area. I guess Ohio is pretty big but they are probally your best bet for parts. www.rx7store.net . Chances are you probally have a leak somehwere wheather it be a vacumme line or a piece of piping. It could be hard to find.

Stage 1 - Intake, Catback, and down pipe
Stage 2 - FMIC, Radiator, ECU, Injectors, fuel pump
This way your aren't breaking the "rule of 3" (The stock ECU does not compensate for additional airflow, resulting in too lean of a/f and predetenation = broken apex seal = new motor with street port)
With a FMIC and "Stage 1" you NEED the injectors (and maybe a high-flow fuel pump) to give you more fuel to compensate for the increased airflow. you need the ECU to account for your new injectors, etc.
Upgrading the radiator is ALWAYS a good idea on these cars, and a good time to do it is when your putting in the FMIC.
In regards to your boost leak, I can only say, start checking for broken vacume lines. You can find "Vacume Hose Diagrams" here somewhere!!! If you chose to do the labor-intensive "Silicone hose job" you could probably find it. This would add to your reliability mods list.
That's my 2 cents. Some post ****** may disagree with me.
It sounds like you've been researching this car, which is VERY important. There's tones of info in this forum, it's just hard to find, IMHO.

Thanks Detbyron for that info. I was thinking about getting the basic BPU intake, exhuast downpipe right away. But then I read a post about it's possible to blow your engine due to to much air flow/ exhuast, and killing your ecu. But i've never heard of an incident other that what've read form these forums.
I think I might buy the exhuast/intake/downpipe today, anyone have any suggestions for these parts, im looking for a loud exhuast system, but still looks nice.
again thanks for everyone's help.

1. Dont use BPU that is a retarded supra word.
2. When modding exhuast and intake dont do more than 3 mods. Intake, downpipe, and cat back. If you put a midpipe in there you will get boost creep and your stock ECU won't compensate for the extra flow, run lean and detonate the fuel, which is verry bad for apex seals.
3. Read all of the 3rd Gen archives.
4. visit this site www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette
5. Happy rotoring!

I've already read a lot of content on that website, and another one that ive found listen on this website. When I get home, i'm going to take it to the local mazda shop. It cant be turbos going, they were rebuilt less that 10k ago. Lets hope its not the turbos at least.

Anyone have a link to a diagram of the vacuum hoses? I have 2 on my comp but they are to big. Mabye later ill get around to resizing them. But explode you should look over all of the vacuum hoses to see if they are all intact and pluged to something. You should get familiar with those things unless you plan going non-seq. Also Dealerships usually don't know didly about rotarys, I would suggest taking it to a rotary shop or doing most of the work yourself.

Do not take it to a dealer.
They have no idea how intricate the turbo control system is for the sequential setup. They are notorious for diagnosing a perfectly good turbo as bad and will not hesitate in talking you into a rebuild or a new set of twins.
Diagnose it yourself, it will save a lot of hassle and get you familiar with the car. Start with the intercooler hoses past the turbo (where the air is pressurized *hence psi*) Take them off, bend them and squish them to check for cracks. Put rags in the opening so that no debris gets into the exposed inlet. Check the links especially. I have had 3 boost problems arise from this. Start at that, then move your way to the actuators, check valves and bad solenoids.
Find a rotary mechanic if you feel that you are getting above your head. This should not be hard, even if you have to drive a few hours. It will be well worth it. Have patience and don't start modding to mask your boost problems. Make sure your car is running right before modding.
Get a cool air intake. It is well worth it and will be a reliability mod good for the future. The one pettit makes is a good cold air induction and rx7 fashion also has one (since you, for some reason, don't like M2, I guess you won't be interested in their carbon fiber one).
Having the 3 mod rule, however cliche it is or redundant, can be a good indicator of when the fuel system has to be upgraded. But if you get control of your boost i.e. "boost controller", then you could keep your levels at stock 10psi with nothing to worry about. I would recommend a 2-stage controller without "fuzzy logic" such as the greddy profec B or the new profec. Then you could mod away with nothing to really worry about. Though getting a fuel computer and larger secondaries will help your car get in the right direction with fuel management.
