Hi guys, i have been lurking for 8 months, and have found an fd i want!
Hi guys, i know i only have 5 posts or so, but i have been lurking for months!
I have found a 1993 fd with 85,000 miles on the chasis and the car has a brand new engine and is located at a dealer with a warranty.
They are asking 15,995.
Do you think this is a fair price? The car is m. blue, tan leather, air con and the usual bits.
Can you tell me of any problems that the 1990 year of production had, and what i should look for in the warranty - i know it is important to be honoured by mazda, and to have the apex seals and head gasket covered...anything else?? Josh.

Are we talking USD or pounds?
If it's in USD, i'd say that is an ok deal if you were over here. It really depends on the used FD market in your area to guage..

$15995 (I'm assuming dollars and not sterling) sounds about ballpark if it has a brand new engine. The warranty sounds good too. It wouldn't hurt to try haggling for a better deal.

an fd does not have a head gasket
In the u.s. $16k would not be unreasonable for a car with a new engine and a body in good condition. It seems that cars in your area go for closer to 7k pounds or 12k dollars.
There are other issues to look for which would best be served by search for "reliability mods" or "how to buy an fd" the lightning in a world of thunder sight has an excellent write up. But if they are giving you a bumper to bumper warranty... you might have a good deal there.
Id say bag this car there are too many other nicer ones including 98's and 2000s with less miles and more go fast parts.
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW...73&search.y=10
the next major issue to worry about is cooling system problems and turbo leaks...both items come into question on a car with 85k miles. why was the engine replaced and what other things did they do at the same time? i.e. hose job, wiring harness, new radiator. etc...
a 1990 is a much different car than a 1993
good luck

ucla....seven stock is right around the corner. There might be some great deals there.
There are many tests you can perform while test driving a car to see if it runs correctly. Tap into the bay area resources to help you search.

I am in LA, the car is in TX, i will not be able to test drive it. This is a problem i know, but if it has a new warranty, new engine (and i have asked about the clutch and turbo's, and for more detailed pics), i am thinking this may suffice.
When is this show you are talking about?

If you are going to TX for a car you may want to look up Lance at LA motorcars www.lamotorcars.com ...Hmmm...maybe where you are getting yours...anyway, I have heard nothing but good things about him and he works with Rotary Performance www.rx7.com Price sounds about right if the interior is in good shape with decent body.

This sounds like a LA Motorcars deal. Get Rotary Performance (rx7.com), Marvelspeed, or Gotham Racing to look at it. Lance will take the car to them for a go over. If Lance put the engine in, then take it to Mavelspeed or Gotham. Lance would have used RP for the work and might as well get a second opinion.
Look in the South forum section for contact info for Marvelspeed and Gotham.

I need the dealer in question to email me pics of the car, as none were listed on the site.

Thanks, Jk.

If your dealing with LA Motorcars, I'll bet I can get someone to go check it out for you. Lance is a straight shooter, but he's still a car salesman.
You might also want to check who takes the Omnicare warranty on the west coast.
Go to the west coast board and search for recomended shops in LA area, and general searches for your last question.

Does his warranty cover the apex seals and other problematic parts?
