We are getting ready to run a group buy for the single and twin kits in the next few days, so keep an eye out for it in the group buy section.

Thanks,
Dan

So having an underdrive kit and not tightening it to the extreme would result in reduced coolant flow? more localized heat? or what
We are a sponsor again this year so look us up.

At higher RPM's with the increased drag on the water pump the belt has the potential to slip, reducing the coolant flow. A common sign is glazing on the back of the belt.

that makes perfect sense, i just went to the garage and mine showed that. I have underdrive pulleys, and definitely didn't crank the alternator up too hard

Can't wait to see you guys at DGRR.

I can't find the interest for the Group Buy thread anywhere but I will be in the market for a Single Turbo model.

I'm lost here so does that mean the greddy pully kit is no good ? I just got it in the mail today and ready to remove my air pump.

Even with the Greddy underdrive (bigger) pulleys, there is very little belt contact. With reduced belt contact, it tends to slip. If it slips, the belt can fail, your water-pump isn't efficient and you tend to over-tighten to compensate. If you overtighten it can cause added wear on the front stationary bearing.
Underdriving pulleys won't measurable add any power to your wheels and for a street driven car it's unnecessary anyway and can cause other issues under electrical load.

IMO a better alternative if your removing the AP on a streeted car is to leave the stock pulleys and get a airpump idler pulley such as Dan Chadwicks.....or others.

Yeah I just made my own last year using an extra alternator pulley wheel and pressed a couple of bearings in.

Smile Air pump removal

I removed my airpump when I installed the Pettit TKT Cold Air inlet. Pettit provided new pulleys that work great and do not need to overtighten the belts. Recommend anyone doing this removal use this system, it works great.

You can see it in the picture, on the bolts where the water pump sits in the housing.

I purchased a air pump pulley from UR a long time ago and I think they discontinued it now as well. Nicely made piece that mounts to the bracket where the air pump sat and the kit uses the stock diameter belt. This kit looks like a nice alternative as well.

Removing the air pump will NOT cause fuel cut. Fuel cut is due to the stock ECU sensing too much boost. Removing the air pump will not increase boost.

What does the noise sound like? Is it "metallic, or thumping, or what?

IMO, something related to what you did is loose or vibrating, and that is causing the noise. Is it possible the new shorter belt is flapping/vibrating and hitting something?

^^ If you don't have this kit, this is an excellent opportunity. I highly recommend it.
