Give him a break, guys. We've all done stupid **** before. Hell, the first time I tried to change my spark plugs I cross-threaded one of them into the block and Dave at KDR had to calm me down. Oh, you mean the block is aluminum, and aluminum is soft? Well, ****.

Geez, I'm so glad I have a daily driver now.....makes working on the FD so much less stressful.

I've done this before as well, except it was with an air filter not a t-shirt.

I had an old sponge type filter that I didn't secure right. a rather large 10" diamater foam type filter got sucked through the first turbo, was completely shredded up and ended up at the bottom of the intercooler.

I took everything apart and cleaned it all out. It didn't do any damage to my turbos and everything was fine for me.

Hopefully it will be for you.

take everything apart and take out all the debris you can.

I've done worst, i've used pantyhose as a temp air filter while my piping was being fabricated. Worked like a charm =D

Well, I'd start by removing the turbos. After you get the turbo's onto a bench you can remove them from the turbo manifold which will alow you to see the shaft and all. From that point you can inspect and clean them....or just send them to Brian at BNR (or where ever but he'll have the best price). He can probably test them for a small fee to let you know it they are ok or not. If they are not you'll need to rebuild them. My guess is if your getting smoke...they are prob not ok. He can rebuild them for about $350-$375 each.

I would also pull the IC and take it to somewhere like a radiator shop. They can flush it out like you would flush out a radiator. They just hook pressurised water/cleaner to one end to flush it out. I'd think it would work the same for a IC just like a radiator.

I'd also completely remove the Y pipe and throttle body and make sure they are super clean. I'd imagine there is T **** stuck to the blades.

Hope that helps some. Sorry to hear about this, I'm not going to beat up on you as I'm sure you've already beat up on yourself enough!!!!

If you had bits in your IC pipes (both of them) then you have pieces in your engine. They'll wedge nicely into apex seal areas... kinda like the wad for a musket.

Poor man's solution: Pull the turbos, send them to BNR, put them back on, never tell anyone when you sell it.

Less poor man's solution: tear the engine down.

I think if the cotton did make it to the engine... It might hurt it...(If I remember the last time I burned a shirt it gets hard...) Maybe that's just Nylon..

But the chance of a big enough piece making it past the intercooler is doubtful.

well, if I go with the BNR system...what should I do? regular rebuild? stage 1? stage2?

keep in mind i'im on pretty much stock everything...so help me out with what the different stages are going to cost me, i assume they require fuel/ignition upgrades

but couldn't i keep the boost down until the fuel/ecu/ignition was upgraded?

i guess i was a little harsh. . . sorry about that. you were just looking for the better treatment of your car.

i still think you should send them to bnr. how long can you sit with your car down? how much money do you have? youll need an EMS that is programmable in order to be efficient and safe with those turbos. . . when i say "those turbos" i mean the upgraded ones. you could probably survive on that for a while, but later on down the road youll need to upgrade your fuel system. just keep the boost level down and you will be safe. keep it below stock levels as the stage twos flow considerably more air than the stock twins. well, if you get the power fc or something then you can do this easily (if you know what your doing!!!hehe).

your looking at a lot of money here. weigh your options and go with what you want your car to be in the future as well as what your car NEEDS to be now.

well, i can have the car down for a while...i have no money, i can barely afford to send the turbos off to have them inspected, let alone rebuilt

I am going to be my parents for a loan, I just don't know what all I need to look at doing. Should I disassemble the engine or just rebuild the turbos?

I can just buy a boost controller and keep the boost down until I can get the money for a fuel/ignition system

right?

Is there a how-to on removing the turbos?

just look at it. its very easy really. make sure you use a lot of penetrant. i use pb blaster. . . simply the best. if you dont use anything youll be asking for advice on pulling out broken/stripped studs.

remove the air box and all intake hoses that go to the turbos. remove the precat. remove the y-pipe. remove the split air tubes.

you need to make a decision on whether you wanna stay sequential or not at this point. if you go parallel then when you take the TCA off the bottom of the ex. manifold you dont have to be so delicate. . . hang on. . . this is on steve cirians site. . . hang on. haha.. . . . . here it is. . . http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/how-to.html

What would do, is pull the turbos, and while they are out, get a flashlight, a mirror, and some flexibility. Look into the exhaust ports, and (by hand) slowly turn the engine over. Inspect each apex seal, and as much of the rotors and rotor housings as you can see.
You can just put a manual boost controller on the car to keep the boost down with the BNR's. Or rather, to keep the boost up, since the wastegate being ported will lower boost with the stock pills in place.

I've used panty hose, too. Worked fine. Bought cool looking blue ones, to look "tough" under the hood...lol!

Why don't you buy a used set of twins from someone who went single... There has to be a decent set in one of our garages.
