help, smoke is coming from my door speaker!

I know this should be in the interior/exterior/audio section. In fact i alrady posted about it there but i only got 1 response so i am going to try for better luck here.

Yesterday morning i was listening to some music is my FD (w/ Bose) and after like 30 sec. it sounded like the front left door speaker had blown. It would make weird noises when the radio or CD was on...even if the volume was all the way down. It would only stop when i turned the head unit off. On the way back from work I decided to put up with the distortion so i could listento some music. When i got into my driveway it only sounded like a blown speaker (no more weird noises when volume was all the way down.) This is when the smoke appeared. It came from behingd the door panel by the speaker. I took the speaker off and the smoke seems to be coming from behind the speaker. Someone mentioned it may be the bose amp for that speaker that is blown and not the speaker? DO youy think its the amp or speaker? Has anyone had this problem before?IF so how can i fix it? THanks for all the help!

Chances are it's the amp, if there's one in the door for the speaker. THe speakers don't do anythin except accept current for driving them, and unless you're putting a lot of juice through them it's unlikely that the speaker would start to smoke. Whatever you do, don't leave it along...fix it! Smoke is *ALWAYS* bad when in the interior of a car, so do yourself a favor and tear that door apart and figure out what's up before you burn your car down playing some tunes

I would suggest taking the speaker out of the enclosure but leaving it hooked up and actually see where the smoke is coming from . Just hold the speaker in your hand and see. It is either the speaker or the amp and this is a quick way to see. If it is the amp, Mazda is going to rape you for a new one. If it is the speaker I have a few lying around since I was a custom stereo installer for several years and have acquired them.
