help!! rpm problem driving me crazy!

ok, here is the problem, buring my motor rebuild, my tach went out... i dont know if it happened while the motor was being rebuilt or not because my car was sitting for about 6 months. after he is done, i go to pick it up and my tach doesnt work. he tries to fix it and when we hooked up a voltage meter to the diagnostic port, it would give us some movement when we pressed the gas. all of my other guages work except this one. i bought another whole cluster and installed it.... STILL NOTHING!

please help..... i am trying to use the wiring diagram to check where the wires go but cant figure out how to read it.... its on page z-44 if anyone has it!

thanks!!!!

...that's also the same connection you tested in the IG terminal of the data link port. See the bottom left of Z-30.

Not that that helps yet.

First be sure the datalink port IG terminal give some rpm measurement on a meter (...with rpm/frequency measurement).

You'll have to trace it down. Check continuity between the IG port (or ecu 2b like mad_7tist said) and the Y/L (yellow w/ blue stripe) on the cluster connector.

i belive if the trailing coil goes bad, or isint plugged in the tach wont work, so put a timing light on all the wires and check em one at a time, see if its working
