Help With Removal Of Handbrake Handle

I am looking at replacing the handbrake handle (on a '96 car) with a different type but would like to know how the current handle is held in place.

Is it bonded on? How easy is it to remove?

So removing the handle without damaging it is almost impossible?

i dont think it can be done without damaging the stock handle. i had to cut the threads off to get to the rubber part. the rubber part is glued on there pretty damn good. i cut mine with a razor down the middle and it was still a pian to get off.

OK Thanks.

I'm asking because the handle I'm looking at is fairly universal and I didn't feel like cutting the handle apart to find that the new one doesn't want to fit properly.
