HELP Please!!
Ok I did some quick half assed searching but didn't come across the answer I'm looking for so I'm posting just to save me time.
Here's the problem. I was driving when all of the sudden my car jerking when I accelerate. Almost like hitting fuel cut off except I was only in 2nd gear @ ~3K RPM. Then when I came to a stop at a red light the engine acts as if it wants to stall: idle bouncing between 0 and 500RPM. To keep the car from stalling at a full stop I rev it up to about 1000RPM or so. As I do this I notice a LOT of smoke coming out the exhaust. I rev it up higher and I get HUGE amounts of BLACK smoke. I finally pull into a parking lot and the car stalls. I pop the hood and there's smoke coming up from the driver's side of the engine close to the fire wall. I checked the AST (factory plastic) and it seems intact (no coolant spillage) and I took a quick peek around but didn't notice anything out of place. I waitted til the smoking (from the engine stopped) and started the car up again. The idle was really rough bouncing around 500 and smoke was pouring out the exhaust. When I rev it up to 1000 and hold it there I noticed that it would kinda stutter and the car would shake a little. When I rev it up to 6000 I get TONS of BLACK smoke. Also there's a sweet smell coming through the vents in the car.
Can anyone suggest how I can fix this problem so I can at least get the car running so I can drive it home. Right now it parked in a parking lot in an industrial area where it might a) get hit by one of the large trucks or b) get vandalized/possibly stolen...etc etc. I just don't feel safe leaving it there. I read about checking the MAP sensor so I'll do that when I return to the car. Hopefully that'll solve the idle problem. What else should I do?!! Thanks in advance.

I finally got the car home. The MAP sensor line was the culprit. I reattached the line to the bottom of the cylinder (fuel filter) under the sensor and it started up fine. Had me so worried I damn near **** my pants.
