HELP! Oil leakage and smoking questions

I am in the middle of investigating an issue my rx7 is having. It's a 1994 R2 with a T78. It began leaving drops of oil in the garage and recently started to smoke pretty bad at all times.... really bad when it's idling or after letting off the accelerator. The car runs fine, idles absolutely perfect and is holding good, steady vacuum.

My guess is that it may be some sort of ventalation issue. First thing that comes to mind is the two nipples that are on the oil pedestal. My understanding of their use is that they pull the gases and relieve pressure, but why is there 2? The vertical one that normally connects near the turbo would be most efficient since it has constant vacuum, so why the other?

Anyway, back to my car. The horizontal one is still hooked up to the uim with the pvc. The vertical one is actually bare, nothing hooked up at all. Perhaps that has caused some of the oil leakage if oil has creeped up the tube. It looks to be the area where the leak is at, as the top of the block on the driver-side shows signs of oil.

I guess my main question is, could that cause the smoking effect I'm experiencing?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the problem really happened all of a sudden after a semi-mild cruise.

Any other guesses as to what my problem is would be greatly appreciated, too! I'm trying to tackle this myself before forking over some dough to have someone look at it!

Is it smoking from the exhaust or from the turbo area?

sorry, should have clarified... bluish smoke from the exhaust, no smoke from the turbo.

That rules out a feed pr return line leaking. Turbine, or compressor seal would be my guess. Is you intake piping coated in oil?

I wouldn't guess the PCV system since if you haven't fiddled with it recently. My experience with single conversions is limited, though.

There is absolutely no oil in the intake line. I also took the air filter off the turbo.... clean.

Sounds like a bad oil seal on the turbine side of the turbo.

You could check in the DP for sludged up oil. Put the car on ramps and see where the oil drip is coming from too.

I capped off the nipple that normally goes to uim and rigged up a makeshift oil catch linked to the other nipple.... which resulted in no improvement.

I'm now wondering if my issue could be caused by inefficient or broken oil coolers? The car actually smokes very little to none right after its started, but after runnng a bit, it smokes bad from the exhaust. Also, steam REALLY starts coming out of my catch can and if i remove the oil cap it smokes/steams out really bad from the oil filler hole. i dont have a oil temp gauge, but plan to check that.

Does any of that make sense?
