Help needed by 1st timer :)

I recently bought a 1994 RX7, and came across a small problem on the test drive.
Everything seems to run fine apart from when u get to around 3000 rpm, and a noise begins to appear form the engine, and doesnt appear to continue pulling? Although the engine revs the car doesnt go. I began to think it was the clutch, But from past experiance from cars (none been RX7's) iv not known it to only do this at certain revs and above. It seems to do this in all gears.
Iv had the car stationary, and revved, and it has gone 4000+ RPM, with no noises or anything.

Any help would be Great

Thanks

Why did you post twice?

What is your boost pattern?

But it generally boosts to 0.8 bar and appears to hold it.

Boost pattern as in for stock 3 gen RX-7, the boost should read 10-8-10psi as there is a "lack" before the 2nd turbo comes in.

any modifications on the car?

Perhaps a wild suggestion, but have you thought about searching for the term?

You need to buy a boost gauge and install it. Without it, it is going to be hard to make any useful suggestions.

With those mods you will not be getting the stock 10-8-10 boost pattern unless the previous owner installed some sort of boost controller or pills (and hopefully they have, because you should not be running above 10 psi on the stock ECU).

Well its got a boost gauge, But the problem i have.. Because i cant get much more than 3000 rpm, whilst moving, i cant register full boost. But i have seen the boost gauge registering around 0.7 - 0.8 bar. which is around 9-10 psi ?

Its weird, coz if u go to accelerate fast it wont go and just makes the noise, whilst engine revs without drive, if u ease the accelerator on then it does slowly pull, (almost as though the clutch is slipping) But iv never know it to do this only above certain revs ?

Try giving it a 3rd gear pull. Start at 35 mph in 3rd gear, go Wide open throttle to redline. 35 in 3rd gear should start you about 2500 rpm you should see 10 psi around 2800 to 3000 with a dip to 8 psi at 4200 to 4500 where you should again go to 10 psi around 4500 with it dropping off to about 9 psi by redline. you will have to convert you bar readings to a psi you can relate to. If your hearing a laoud noise at 3k and it won't go any higher you will need to pull your check engine codes (if no light they will be stored) to see if it gives you a hint of the failure/problems. If no codes you may have a boost leak and that may be the noise your hearing.

Right took it for a run, and upto 3000 RPM boost holds steady @ 10 psi, Slightly dips just over 3000 rpm, with noise starting to sound. once i got above that the boost dropped to 0.4 bar (arund 5.5 psi) and just doesnt appear to have the pulling power. Hope this is able to let some 1 give me the next step

Thanks
