Dumb question; is the radiator full when cold? Could be water pump, thermostat, or sensor. Could you be more specific as to how fast the gauge rises.

It could be that your thermostat is stuck.
Mine use to overheat on the freeway because it wouldn't open all the way.
When I removed mine you could see that the gasket wouldn't make a good seal.
It's not too hard to check, just remove the 3 bolts attached to the filler neck and make sure you drain some coolant before removing it.

Seems like it gets hot too fast... what do you mean the temp goes down as fast as the fans are on?

nope it only goes down when I turn off the car , but that's the thing I would think if the car is hot when I would start the car right back up it would be up at hot right away

So if it is hot and you immediately shut it down and start it back up it is cold again?

Sounds like an electrical problem.

No way a car can overheat in 60 seconds from a dead cold start, even if the ambient temps are warm or even hot unless you were pounding the throttle from startup in which this case you werent.

Right?

Its a sensor issue. A car takes longer then 60 seconds to warm up even if the thermostat isn't opening. More like 5+ minutes. The sensor for the cluster is different then the one for the computer if I remember correctly. It might not even matter but have it checked out unless you have a pfc to verify the sensor temps.

You should have an aftermarket water temp gauge anyway. Btw you can test your thermostat instead of just replacing it.

make sure there is nothing making contact between the sensor in the rear iron and the iron itself, this happen to me few weeks ago.

turn out to be that i had drop a small 8mm nut and it landed in between the sensor and the rear iron grounding the sensor and making the gauge go all the way up to hot in no time.
