help me find the right car
I am looking for a 3rd gen rx-7, but you probibly guessed that by what forum Im in. I am selling my s-10 for a couple of reasons and I would like some advise on buying one of these. I'm hoping to get about 14k for my truck and a have about another grand to spend. I have seen some for sale for about 15 but they are all high milage and I have heard these engines don't exactly last a long time. I would like any advise that I could get.
Thanks,
Alan
ps If anyone wants a custom s-10 let me know.

There are a lot of RX-7's for sale these days. Have you looked at the For Sale section of this forum? I have seen several cars, which I don't consider to have high mileage, in your price range.

Buy a FD with a blown engnie and drop a freshly rebuilt engine into it, while your at it, get a single turbo upgrade and ecu upgrade and injector/fuel upgrades, the money you save with a blown engine should beable to take care of all these upgrades. A FD with a blown engine should run you about 4-6k, then you can buy a new/rebuilt engine for 2-3k and new turbos for 2k and a ecu for 1.2k and fuel upgrades for about another grand, then do it all yourself or pay someone 2-3k to professionaly install all this stuff. You should be at about 350-450 rwhp and you should also have a pretty bullet proof engine (well as bulletproof as they come) and you should not need to worry about any problems for about at least 20-40k miles later. You should put aside at least 100-300 bucks for tuning and have a pro use a lambda meter to tune that bad boy. You should come just a bit under cost and all you have to do is to now learn how to drive a 2800lb car with 350-450 rwhp (which is harder then it sounds, even a stock FD has enuf torque/hp to easily spin your tires in a corner if your not very careful!).
Good luck
BTW: You are hella lucky that your in the mainland and not in Hawaii! FD's are a plenty in the lower 48's and you should not have any trouble finding yourself a perfect little project car, check out chris93fd's FD, it ran him about 3500 bucks and apparently it runs great.

I managed to get a 93 for 6000 that doesnt need a motor or turbos but could use a little tuning. also it looks good , needs front clip painted but other than that has a good interior and body. ended up costing me about 7000 by the time i had it looking and running perfect again. Oh and a bonus i just got offered 16500 for it but im not selling (its my baby and these are getting rare)
I know of a couple places to pic em up for less than 9000 that run / look good but just need a little help.
let me know if ur interested.
in short shop around and your sure to get what you want.
i think its better to start with a car that needs a little work as long as you can do this yourself cause then you get what you want.
and the way i see it buying one for cheap even if it needs a new engine is best cause
1) you know the condition
2) probably can get it for pretty cheap
3) Your Saving A Wonderfull Car
just my opinion anyway
